  • Metronome: A new tab clicks with accents, subdivisions and five sounds, and each song clicks along at its own tempo, following the changes written into it.
  • Chord diagrams: Every song now starts with how its chords are played on guitar, ukulele or keyboard, and you pick the shape you play for each chord.
  • Capo and tempo on the song: Set the transposition, capo and tempo right on the song, separately for each setlist, and sync them between your devices along with your chord shapes.
  • Sepia background: A slider in Settings warms the background towards the color of old paper, which can be easier on the eyes, with the contrast unchanged.
  • Features in Settings: Hide the chords, chord diagrams, metronome, setlists or cover art you never use; Performance mode, now called Read only, is there too.
  • More chord notations: Chords can also be shown in Latin (Do Re Mi), as Nashville numbers or as Roman numerals, while your song files keep standard names.

  • Numbered sections: Sections with no name of their own are now headed Verse 1, Verse 2 and so on, and Number sections in Settings turns it off.
  • Setlist running time: Setlist headers add up their songs' durations, and each song shows its length, so you can see how long a set takes.
  • Reorder songs: Songs in a setlist now move only after you choose Reorder songs from its menu, so scrolling never changes the order by accident.
  • Forms open as bottom sheets: Every form with a text field now slides up from the bottom and keeps the field above the keyboard, even on small phones.
  • More details for a new song: New song also asks for an optional subtitle, album, composer, lyricist, year and duration, so a song starts complete.
  • Duplicate archived setlists: Archived setlists can now be duplicated and deleted, so a set you have played is a quick start for the next one.

  • Songs laid out like a magazine: Long songs now flow through as many columns and rows as your screen allows, filling each column down to the bottom and running a section on at the top of the next, so you turn fewer pages. Each row is centered on the screen, and the layout keeps your place when you resize the window or change the text size.
  • Page through songs any way you like: Step with the on-screen buttons, scroll, tap the top or bottom half of the screen, or use a Bluetooth page turner pedal or the Up, Down, Page Up and Page Down keys. A swipe moves exactly one step, a held key counts as one press, every line can be reached with just Up and Down at any text size, and a progress indicator between the buttons shows where you are in the song.
  • Export songs and setlists as PDF: Choose the paper size, margins, up to four columns and what to include, check the result in a live preview you can zoom, then save or share it (sharing is on Android and iOS). The text in the PDF can be searched and copied.
  • Import PDF, Word and text song sheets: Campfire converts them on your device into ChordPro songs, with the chords placed over the lyrics, even from whole songbooks, and a damaged page no longer stops the rest of the import.
  • A clearer import: It shows its progress, can be cancelled while files are read, and ends with a report listing what was imported, converted, skipped or failed, each with the reason.
  • Share songs and setlists as files: Export a song as ChordPro or a setlist as a zip, ready for other Campfire users to import.
  • Prettify ChordPro: This editor menu entry tidies a song's formatting and keeps your cursor where it was.
  • About the song sheet: One sheet holds a song's details, tags, languages and links, each with its own edit button, and tags and languages can also be edited from a song's menu on the Songs screen.
  • Standard chord names in every file: Songs are always saved with standard chord names, so a library reads the same everywhere. German notation (H and B) is still shown and typed in the app if you choose it.
  • Web app works offline: After one visit, the web app opens without a connection, and Settings tells you whether your browser has promised to keep your library.

@pandulapeter pandulapeter released this 29 Sep 19:35
  • Cover art: songs can show an album cover next to them, found with a built-in search (MusicBrainz and iTunes) or set from any image address. Covers are downloaded once and kept on the device, and a new "Cover art" switch in Settings turns it all off
  • Links in song metadata: attach a video, a recording or any other page to a song and open it from the song's header
  • Changes are now synced automatically: right after launch and shortly after every edit, without pressing Sync now. Sync also survives slow connections and keeps running in the background on Android and iOS
  • Dates and countdowns for setlists, with a calendar to pick the day, an optional "In 5 days" line under the header, and sorting setlists by date. Setlists can also be duplicated
  • New default "Campfire" theme in purple and orange, an orange theme, a welcome sheet on the first run, and an app icon that follows the theme color on every platform. The desktop window's title bar and background now follow the theme too
  • Easier reading and playing: previous / next row and section buttons, optional snapping to rows, folding any section, showing or hiding tabs and chord grids, scroll-to-top shortcuts, and a smarter layout when reading across columns
  • Transposition now goes around the octave instead of stopping at the ends, and the transposition and text size controls moved into the song's header
  • "Manage tags" replaces "Add tag", with a simpler way to filter by tag
  • Settings: clear the cover art cache, delete the whole library (also from Dropbox when sync is on), "Help and support", and links to campfire-songbook.com. The web app now lives at campfire-songbook.com/app
  • Much faster and smoother: launch, long song lists, search, pinch-to-zoom, typing in the editor, imports and syncing large libraries
  • Very long songs no longer freeze the app, and the editor stays steady while the keyboard opens
  • Fixed the Android release build crashing on launch, a color problem on Samsung devices with dynamic color, and the Microsoft Store build's library location

  • Redesigned the app around cards, with clearer toolbars, expanded navigation rails and a reworked Settings screen
  • Added a welcome screen that helps you pick a theme the first time you open the app
  • The app's icon can now follow your theme color, wherever the platform allows it — the home screen icon on Android and iOS, the web favicon, and the window, taskbar and Dock icon on desktop — plus a new Orange color option
  • Any section of a song, its tab and its grid can now be folded away
  • Font size can be changed with the standard system shortcuts, and a shortcut jumps straight back to the top of a long list
  • Sort and filter are now separate buttons on the Songs and Setlists screens; the filter for songs without chords has been removed
  • On the web, the browser's toolbar now matches the app's theme color
  • Campfire is now available directly on the Microsoft Store and the Mac App Store
  • The "Buy me a coffee" link no longer shows on Apple platforms, per App Store guidelines
  • Fixed opening a song from outside the app losing unsaved changes in the editor, and fixed file associations on Android
  • Fixed opening a file from the file manager on desktop starting a second window instead of reusing the one already open
  • Various performance improvements for large libraries: faster scrolling, search and editing

4.3.0

@pandulapeter pandulapeter released this 23 Sep 09:21
  • Unsaved text in the editor now survives the app being closed or killed in the background, and is offered back the next time you open Campfire
  • Redesigned Settings → About into one link to every version of Campfire and one Rate Campfire row, replacing the old list of platforms
  • The sync safety guard that stops a run from wiping your library now also catches a cloud folder that was emptied, renamed or replaced, and asks which side to trust
  • Ctrl / Cmd + S now saves from anywhere in the editor, including the preview and an unclicked text field
  • Right-to-left lyrics now lay out from the right edge, with their chords spread over the words they belong to
  • Many ChordPro parsing and transposition fixes: chords written in comments and section headings, keys spelled out in words ("G major"), a transpose directive partway through a song, lowercase bass notes, and several tablature edge cases
  • Many sync fixes: forgetting a previous installation's connection now keeps retrying until it succeeds, a momentary read failure no longer shows as "not connected", and conflicting edits, unreadable files and files another device kept changing are all handled more reliably
  • Song and setlist file names are now composed the same way regardless of which platform wrote them, so a name typed on a Mac or an iPhone is no longer treated as a different file, and an import never again overwrites a file it brings back unchanged
  • Renaming or deleting a song is now followed correctly into every setlist that names it
  • Several iOS fixes: files kept only in iCloud Drive are now read correctly, temporary files left behind by import, export and sharing are cleaned up, exporting no longer freezes the app, and a fresh install now forgets a previous installation's leftover sync connection
  • Several desktop fixes: faster startup on Windows, the Windows installer now offers to launch Campfire when it finishes, screen readers and locale data are bundled correctly again, and quitting Campfire on macOS no longer blocks the system from logging out
  • Fixed lists, lyrics and the editor overlapping the camera cutout on Android phones in landscape, and dialogs now correctly hide behind Android's update-required screen
  • Several smaller fixes: the song and setlist lists scroll back to top when a filter changes, every quick tap on a setlist song's transposition stepper is now counted, and arrow keys held with Alt, Cmd or Ctrl are left to the browser on the song details screen

@pandulapeter pandulapeter released this 22 Sep 15:13
Campfire
  • Redesigned Settings into General, Songs, Library and About sections, with a new section linking to Campfire on every other platform you use
  • Added filters to the Song picker bottom sheet used when adding songs to a setlist — the same tag, language and search filters as the Songs screen
  • Ctrl / Cmd + F now opens search on desktop and the web
  • On the web, the address bar and the browser's Back and Forward buttons now move between screens the way they do in a native app
  • Added a setting to read chords the way Central European and Scandinavian chord charts do — lowercase and German notation, where B means H — and a setting to always write flats or sharps regardless of key
  • The editor's shortcuts row can now be expanded or collapsed, and the editor scrolls sideways for lines wider than the screen
  • Search and file names now fold Polish, Turkish, Vietnamese and other accented Latin letters instead of dropping them, so accented searches and imports match correctly
  • Settings now shows the size of your library on disk
  • Text shared to Campfire on Android is imported straight away as a new song
  • A setlist can now be reordered from its row's menu, not only by dragging, and works with a screen reader
  • Screen readers can now read a song's chords and tablature, and read a song laid out in columns in the right order
  • ChordPro improvements: recognizes more chord spellings and directives written with a space instead of a colon, keeps ABC, LilyPond, SVG and tab blocks verbatim instead of misreading them as lyrics, shows highlight comments instead of dropping them, and keeps a song in the key it starts in when it changes key partway through
  • Many sync fixes: clearer messages when a cloud folder is full or a run is stopped, faster and more reliable reconnects to Dropbox, correct handling of conflicting edits and renamed or case-changed files, and several crashes and stuck states around interrupted runs fixed
  • Several import and export fixes: safer handling of very large or malformed zip archives, files with unusual encodings or byte-order marks, and clearer messages when an exported archive is too large to import back in one go
  • Fixed the app crashing when opening a song from a very large setlist, when a song has one very tall section, when sorting by a title that starts with a symbol, and on a few other rare inputs
  • Fixed several double-tap issues that could open two file pickers, run a menu action twice, or create a duplicate song or setlist
  • Sped up scrolling, resizing a song laid out across columns, and typing in the editor
  • Various Android fixes: rotation no longer loses the update screen, unsaved editor text or an in-progress export, and imports and syncs finish correctly when the app is backgrounded or restarted mid-operation
  • Various iOS fixes: the sync notification now shows correctly and ends cleanly in the background, the status bar, system sheets and keyboard follow the theme chosen in the app, and the sync connection and sync index stay out of the device backup
  • Various desktop fixes: kept the single-instance lock and opened file working when the app is reopened while closing, drag and drop working after a bad file, and the app no longer quits when a link can't be opened
  • Fixed a crash on Safari before version 26 that could prevent the web library from saving

  • Fix Dropbox sync provider not being available.

4.2.1

Choose a tag to compare

@pandulapeter pandulapeter released this 14 Sep 17:30
  • Large libraries now load without freezing the app at start
  • Android: the app now restores its open screens, the editor's unsaved text, the song filter and any open searches after the system kills it in the background
  • Sync now asks before deleting most of the library when the cloud folder looks emptied, renamed or replaced, offering to delete the files here too or re-upload them instead
  • Settings now explains why connecting a sync account failed instead of silently showing the Connect button again
  • Sync credentials are now kept in the Android Keystore and the iOS Keychain
  • The web app now shows a message and a retry button when it fails to load or its script fails to download
  • Desktop now asks about unsaved editor text before the app is closed or quit, and finishes a running save first
  • Fixed the Setlists screen and the song pager crashing on a setlist that names the same song twice
  • Fixed quick changes to a song or setlist — such as tag, language and transposition taps and swipe removals — undoing each other
  • Fixed several transposition and tab display bugs, and preserved line endings and blank lines in ChordPro edits
  • Fixed a number of import and export issues: files with non-UTF-8 accents, long file names, case-only renames, setlists whose only change was a description, and imports left blocked by another dialog
  • Fixed the song picker and the song languages dialog losing their selection on rotation
  • Smoothed out scrolling, editor typing, transitions and other animations across the app

4.2.0

Choose a tag to compare

@pandulapeter pandulapeter released this 14 Sep 10:40
  • Setlist descriptions, and a search on the Setlists screen that finds a setlist by its title, its description or the songs in it
  • Song assignments: tick every song of a setlist at once from a searchable list, opened from the setlist's menu or right after creating it
  • Search on both list screens now opens from a button in the app bar
  • Two public domain demo songs and a demo setlist for a fresh start, which can be added back any time from Settings
  • Tablature too wide for the screen wraps onto several rows instead of scrolling sideways
  • The screen stays on while a song is open (Android, iOS and the web)
  • The floating action button is replaced by a "+" button in the app bar, which creates a song or setlist or imports files, and the empty screens offer the same
  • Song rows have a menu button on touch screens too, and song actions are the same menu everywhere
  • Selected tag and language filters are no longer remembered between launches, and the Sort and filter button shows when a filter is on
  • "Rescan library" has been removed from Settings; the library is still reloaded whenever you return to the app
  • Tags and languages that every song in the library shares are no longer repeated on every row
  • General polish: the app bar spans wide windows above the navigation rail, new tab and search animations, a smoother startup, headers with a close button on every bottom sheet, and no loading flash when opening a song
  • Fixes: a setlist with a single song now shows its footer on the song details screen, and the song list no longer opens scrolled down
  • Web: Escape closes dialogs while typing in them, and icons no longer pop into place after the loading screen
