How should I set PY environment variable? I think that might be the issue.

The environment variable PY was not set on my distro (Void Linux). Should this be documented?

Hm, if PY is not set, it should be defaulted to which python: if you're not seeing that, opening a PR or filing a bug about it would be appreciated!
