Second alpha of ParaAir, the Mac app that mounts cloud storage as a drive and opens big files without downloading them first. Apple Silicon, macOS 26 or later.

New in alpha 2

  • Updates itself. ParaAir checks for updates once a day and asks before installing. It ejects its drives first; files waiting to upload stay on your Mac and upload afterwards. Updates are signed, and ParaAir refuses any update or update list that isn't.
  • R2 API tokens. Connect a Cloudflare R2 bucket from any Cloudflare account: account ID, bucket and the token's key pair. Browser sign-in with Cloudflare remains available.
  • New look. The app now matches paraair.pages.dev, with clearer secondary text in Light mode.
  • Install defaults. Opening ParaAir from the disk image moves it to Applications and replaces an older copy; it opens at login (change it in the app).
  • Version shown in Advanced and About ParaAir.

Updating from alpha 1: alpha 1 can't update itself. Download the disk image below and open ParaAir from it: it ejects your drive, replaces the copy in Applications and opens again. Updates after this one happen in the app.

Files: ParaAir-0.1.0-alpha.2.dmg (recommended) and ParaAir-0.1.0-alpha.2.zip (the same app, also used by in-app updates). Both are signed with Developer ID and notarized by Apple. SHA-256 checksums are below.

First public alpha of ParaAir: your storage bucket as a drive in Finder. Files open in pieces as apps read them, and saves land on your Mac first, then upload in the background.

Requirements

  • An Apple Silicon Mac on macOS 26 or later
  • Your own storage bucket. Cloudflare R2 works today; other S3-compatible storage is untested.

ParaAir Cloud, the hosted storage plan, is not part of this build yet.

Install

  1. Download ParaAir-0.1.0-alpha.1.dmg below and open it.
  2. Drag ParaAir onto Applications, then open it from Applications.
  3. Follow the setup steps in the app. It asks you to turn on the ParaAir file system extension in System Settings, then to connect your storage.

Alpha
Expect rough edges. Keep your own copy of anything important, and report problems in Issues.
