fastedit-hook blanket-denying non-code Edits. The PreToolUse hook that redirects Claude Code's built-in Edit tool to fast_edit was firing on every file — Markdown, YAML, TOML, JSON, plain text — even though FastEdit can't parse those formats. Callers saw error: Use fast_edit MCP tool instead when trying to edit READMEs, changelogs, or config files. Fixed by whitelisting the extensions FastEdit actually handles (.py, .js/.jsx/.mjs/.cjs, .ts/.tsx, .rs, .go, .java, .c/.h, .cpp/.cc/.cxx/.hpp, .rb, .php, .swift, .kt/.kts, .cs, .ex/.exs). Non-code Edits now fall through to the built-in tool as they should.
Changed
README install section is now PEP 668-aware. Dropped the bare pip install fastedits instructions — they fail out of the box on Homebrew and distro-managed Python. New default: uv tool install 'fastedits[mlx]', with pipx and plain-venv alternatives listed underneath. tldr is correctly labeled as optional (only read/search tools need it; editing runs pure in-memory tree-sitter).
