Side by side is in the View menu now.

It was only under More. It is in the View menu too — the control that reads Fit width at the bottom right — under Layout and view, next to Two pages.

It carries a tick while the second document is open, and choosing it again closes the pane. Open the other PDF in a tab first: the picker offers the documents you already have open.
