Patchloom for VS Code 0.9.1
This release follows Patchloom CLI 0.37.1. Command results match what the CLI did. A formatter that fails after a write can still tell you to Undo.
Highlights
Recommended CLI is now 0.37.1. Configure MCP still offers 66 tools, or a 12-tool core pack.
Quick Actions and Batch Apply wait 45 seconds. A formatter that fails after the write can return format_failed instead of being cut off. If that wait still runs out, the Quick Action keeps the text the CLI already wrote.
Minimum supported CLI remains 0.3.0. No settings migration is required.
Bug fixes
- Configure MCP could rewrite a file or hide a partial save. The portable workspace file
.mcp.jsonis a target (mcpServers, typestdio). An existing config is edited in place, so comments and trailing commas stay. A file that cannot be read is left alone. If a later target fails after some were saved, the message includes that count (#287). - A path inside the workspace looked outside. Path checks use the real path, so a symlink prefix does not reject a file that stays in the workspace. An outside patch is copied into the workspace before apply or merge, and containment stays on (#287).
- Windows managed install missed
patchloom.exeat the zip root. The installer looks inpatchloom-<triple>/patchloom.exe, then at the archive root (#287). - Quick Actions reported "no changes" or the wrong retry. A missing markdown heading, fragment anchor, insert anchor, or structured key is shown as the CLI error. A patch that writes nothing is a warning. Search no longer says every file contains the pattern when no file lacks it. A
doc.updatethat matched nothing does not suggest Update again (#287). - Batch Apply hid refused lines and counted comments. A hard error rolls the plan back. A replace that matches nothing, or a structured delete that removes nothing, is named, and other writes stay. A line that starts with
#is a comment and is not an operation. The template prepends withfile.prepend.--insert-afterin a batch plan is stored as the new text and would replace the matched line (#287). - The 30 second wait killed the CLI before
format_failedreturned. Quick Actions and Batch Apply now wait 45 seconds. The CLI format deadline is 30 seconds and starts after the write. Batch Apply does not roll aformat_failedwrite back. That file may already be changed, and Undo restores it. A format deadline longer than 45 seconds can still be cut off (#289). - A Quick Action timeout showed only "Command failed". When the wait runs out, the toast keeps the CLI stdout and stderr, including a
format_failedline, so you can Undo a write that landed before the process stopped (#290).
CLI 0.37.1
These show up when the extension runs the recommended CLI (#289).
- A post-write formatter that fails, or that runs past its deadline, exits with
format_failed. The file may already be written. Patchloom: Undo last change restores it. - Format commands from a parent
.patchloom.tomloutside a git repository are dropped. Write policy from that parent still applies. - Replace text keeps
$as text. A hunk that ends before its line counts are satisfied is a parse error and is not applied.

Upgrading
- Update the extension to 0.9.1 (VS Code Marketplace, Open VSX, or
.vsixfrom the GitHub Release). - Update the Patchloom CLI using the channel that matches how the extension resolved it (see Patchloom: Show Status, Source):
# Managed install (extension storage): command palette
# Patchloom: Update Patchloom
# PATH via Scoop (preferred Windows PATH channel)
scoop update patchloom
# PATH via Homebrew
brew upgrade patchloom
# npm / cargo / shell installer: see README Install section- Confirm with Patchloom: Show Status that the detected CLI is 0.37.1 or newer (0.3.0+ still runs; 0.37.1 is recommended). The 66-tool inventory and the 12-tool core pack need CLI 0.37.0+.
- Optional: run Patchloom: Configure MCP and choose Full or Core. Add Portable workspace if you want
.mcp.json.
