Release list
Swiftly Player 1.0.3 — Windows and Linux
Swiftly Player 1.0.3 for Windows and Linux
Update — September 20 (build 2, Windows)
- Fixed: starting another title no longer leaves the picture standing on a still frame while the sound and the clock keep running.
Same version, rebuilt. Download Swiftly-1.0.3-Setup.exe below again and run it over your existing install. Profile reads 1.0.3 (2) once it's in.
Install
Windows
- Download
Swiftly-1.0.3-Setup.exebelow and run it. - Windows SmartScreen may warn because the installer isn't signed: click More info → Run anyway.
- The first launch after installing can take up to a minute while Windows checks the app. A small window shows what's happening in the meantime. After that, Swiftly opens in about a second.
Installs over an existing version. Works without admin rights. If something goes wrong, the log is at %APPDATA%\Swiftly\swiftly.log.
Linux
One line in a terminal — it adds the signed package source, so updates arrive with your normal system updates:
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/paulherter/swiftly-player/main/Linux/Installieren/swiftly-installieren.sh | bashWorks on Debian/Ubuntu (apt), Fedora (dnf), openSUSE (zypper) and Arch (pacman). Or grab the .deb, .rpm or tarball below by hand — needs GTK 4.14 and VLC.
What's new
- New: Skip Intro and Next Episode pop up over the video on their own. Press Enter or click to use them, Escape to hide them. When your server knows where the credits start, the next episode starts by itself.
- New: your audio and subtitle choices stick for the whole series, even after a restart.
- New: external subtitle files show up and can be picked.
- Changed: audio tracks read like "German · E-AC-3 · 5.1".
- Fixed: the time jumps to the new spot right away when you skip, and playback no longer waits on a slow server.
- Fixed: pausing, resuming and seeking show up right away on other devices.
- Fixed: closing the player while an episode is loading no longer starts playback in the background, and "Next Episode" no longer shows on the last episode.
- Fixed: the series page keeps its scroll position and shows your progress after closing the player.
- Fixed: "Continue Watching" resumes from the latest position, and "Progress on tiles" affects every tile.
- Fixed: "Continue here" asks which device when several are playing.
- Fixed: Quick Connect keeps waiting and says why no code came; errors read as plain sentences.
- Fixed: the Jellyfin dashboard shows the app version instead of "unknown".
- Fixed (Windows): a loading window appears right away when you start the app.

Swiftly Player 1.0.2 — Windows and Linux
Swiftly Player 1.0.2 for Windows and Linux — the same version as on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Mac.
Install
Windows
- Download
Swiftly-1.0.2-Setup.exebelow and run it. - Windows SmartScreen may warn because the installer isn't signed: click More info → Run anyway.
- The first launch after installing can take up to a minute while Windows checks the app. A small window shows what's happening in the meantime. After that, Swiftly opens in about a second.
If something goes wrong, the log is at %APPDATA%\Swiftly\swiftly.log.
Installs over an existing version. Works without admin rights.
What's new
Looks and behaves like the Mac app. Pages, settings, the player's playback panel, series, people, watchlist and downloads were brought in line with macOS.
Works with Jellyfin 12. Swiftly now uses ApiKey, which older servers accept too.
A buffer setting for shaky connections. Settings → Playback → Buffer.
Faster posters, plus many fixes: downloads per episode, account switching, window size on small screens, and more.

Swiftly for Jellyfin 1.0.0 — Windows and Linux
Swiftly for Jellyfin on the desktop — the same app on Windows and Linux, built from the same source.
Windows
Swiftly-1.0.0-Setup.exe — 80 MB, Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit.
The installer puts it in Program Files (or your own folder if you run it without admin rights — you choose in the dialog), adds a Start menu entry and an optional desktop icon, and registers a proper uninstall.
Windows will warn you the first time. SmartScreen shows a blue box saying the publisher is unknown: click More info, then Run anyway. That is not a verdict on the app — it means the installer carries no paid code-signing certificate. Jellyfin's own desktop app is in the same position. The checksums below are there so you can verify what you downloaded.
Linux
One command. It works out your distribution, pulls the dependencies from that distribution's own package sources, and installs from a signed package repository — so updates arrive with your normal system update.
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/paulherter/swiftly-for-jellyfin/main/Linux/Installieren/swiftly-installieren.sh | bashCovers Arch, CachyOS, Manjaro, EndeavourOS, Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Debian, Pop!_OS, Fedora, Nobara, Rocky, AlmaLinux and openSUSE. The .deb, .rpm and .tar.gz below are the same build for anyone who would rather install by hand. Needs GTK 4.14 and libVLC.
Both
- Never transcodes. Everything plays as Direct Play or Direct Stream — that is the reason this app exists.
- The interface ships its own typeface (Inter, SIL Open Font License), so it looks the same on every platform.
- Media keys work. GTK 4, libVLC and the Swift runtime come along; there is nothing else to install.

Apple devices
iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Mac are in beta on TestFlight.
