MetaEdit 0.1.0
First public release. Notarized and stapled — download, unzip, drag to Applications, open.
MetaEdit is a fast, standalone EXIF/IPTC metadata editor for macOS, built for photojournalists and photographers who care that their metadata round-trips correctly with Lightroom, Photo Mechanic, and the rest of the industry's tools.
Highlights
- Three-pane browser with embedded-preview thumbnails (fast even on RAW folders)
- Single-image and batch editing (multi-select, conflict detection, keyword append/replace policy)
- IPTC IIM + XMP dual-write on JPEG/TIFF, always UTF-8, kept in sync
.xmpsidecars for RAW files (Lightroom convention; embedded RAW writes available as an opt-in setting)- Metadata templates for boilerplate (credit, copyright, usage terms, creator contact)
- Archive repair: set file dates from capture date, with independently verified results
- Every write is verified by re-reading; nothing you didn't edit is ever touched
- All metadata I/O through a bundled, pinned ExifTool — no network, no telemetry, no AI
Requirements
- Apple silicon or Intel Mac, macOS 14 or later
See USER_GUIDE.md for a walkthrough.

MetaEdit is the free companion to a larger AI-assisted captioning and archiving app for working photojournalists, currently in beta. More on that soon.
