RAWmakase 0.3.1
TL;DR: RAWmakase 0.3.1 fixes some of the rendering issues 0.3.0 left open. Shadows lifts dark scenes properly, high-ISO noise reduction is much stronger, and As Shot white balance now matches Lightroom on over 100 more Canon, Fujifilm, Sony, Olympus and OM System bodies. Lightroom crops on portrait photos and in-camera aspect ratios on Panasonic, Leica and Sony are framed as in Camera Raw. You can also run AI masks on another computer.

New
- AI masks on another computer (#480, thanks @joshuaswarren). Select Subject, Sky, Background and click selections can run on a second machine with a capable CPU or GPU while you edit on a laptop. It is off by default and meant to be reached through an SSH tunnel; the worker isn't included in the packages yet, so build
rawmakase-remote-workerfrom source. See docs/remote-inference.md for setup and its security model.
Improved
- Shadows lifts dark scenes (#481). Positive Shadows barely brightened dark areas with scattered bright gaps, such as trees against the sky, unless you also raised Exposure. On the reported photo, Shadows +100 now lifts the dark areas by 1.22 EV, against Camera Raw's 1.34 EV (0.50 EV before). Some photos still lift less than in Camera Raw.
- Dark tones render consistently across cameras and Exposure (#478), closer to Camera Raw's default black rendering.
- Stronger luminance noise reduction at high ISO (#498, fixes #386, thanks @rauanvsc for the report). Coarse, blotchy noise used to survive even at 50. Luminance Detail and Contrast now work independently of Color Detail, and previews and exports match. Very high amounts can remove faint detail. Saved values are unchanged.
- As Shot white balance matches Lightroom on many more cameras (#481, #488, #493, #497). Adobe calibrates each camera body from a white-balance preset in its own RAW files. RAWmakase already did this for many Sony bodies, and now does it for over 100 more, including the Sony A7 II and older Sony bodies. As Shot Temperature and Tint used to differ by up to 1000 K and 24 Tint on these cameras. Temperature and Tint typed in or imported from Lightroom now give Lightroom's colours too. Edits you've already saved look the same.
Fixed
- Lightroom crops on portrait photos (#494, fixes #483). Crops imported from Lightroom or Camera Raw on photos taken with the camera turned were applied to the wrong sides. Exports and presets now write crops the way Lightroom reads them.
- In-camera aspect ratios on Panasonic, Leica and Sony (#499, fixes #495). 1:1, 4:3 and 16:9 shots now open on the whole sensor with the camera's ratio as their crop, as in Camera Raw, so Lightroom crops are no longer cut twice and square shots come out square.
- Return confirms Copy Settings, Synchronize Settings and New Develop Preset, as in Lightroom (#489, fixes #479, thanks @EttVenter for the report). Escape still cancels.
- Preferences → Display no longer cuts off its text (#490, fixes #418, thanks @martijnvandijk for the report).
- The Library filmstrip's thumbnails keep their size when you select all (#463, thanks @Phlogi).
Changed
- Earlier RAWmakase edits of Panasonic, Leica and Sony aspect-ratio shots may need their crop redone. Their crop and masks were saved relative to the old, already cropped frame. Such an edit can now show the whole sensor, and its masks can shift. Lightroom and Camera Raw edits of these photos aren't affected.
Requirements
Mac downloads require macOS 15+. Windows downloads are for 64-bit Windows 10 and later (x86_64 and ARM64). Linux packages are for x86_64 and ARM (aarch64): Ubuntu 24.04+ or Debian 13+, or Fedora 43+. The Arch Linux package is x86_64. AUR publication remains paused, so get the Arch package from the link above. Homebrew users update with brew upgrade --cask rawmakase.
