Server Roles & Automatic User Permissions

Problem

Currently, servers in Pelican Panel can only be assigned to individual users. Roles exist for users, but there is no way to assign roles directly to servers, which would automatically grant permissions to all users with that role.

Proposed Solution

Extend the system so that servers can be assigned roles. Each role has defined permissions (e.g., start/stop, configuration changes, console access, backup management).
All users who have that role automatically gain the permissions for the server, without needing to be added individually.

Functionality

1. Assign Roles to Servers

   • A server can have multiple roles.
   • Specific permissions can be configured for each role.

2. User Roles → Automatic Permissions

   • Any user who has a role automatically gets access to all servers that role is assigned to.
   • Permissions are dynamically applied:
     • Changing a role immediately updates permissions on all assigned servers.

3. Flexible Role Permissions per Server

   • Roles can have different permissions on different servers:
     • Example: Role "Admin" can do everything on Server A, but only read console on Server B.
   • Creates a fine-grained permission system that is easy to manage.

4. Benefits

   • Reduces administrative overhead, especially for large teams.
   • Ensures consistent permissions across multiple servers.
   • New users with a role immediately gain access.
   • Transparent: admins can see which roles have access to which servers.
