Release list
macshot 5.2.1
Changes since v5.2.0
- Use shared signing identity for releases
Install
Requires macOS 26 or later on Apple silicon.
- Download
macshot-5.2.1-arm64.zipbelow. Open it and move macshot to Applications. - Open macshot. macOS blocks the first start, because the app is not notarized. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
- Grant Screen Recording (in System Settings: Screen & System Audio Recording). Scroll capture's auto-scroll and element snapping also ask for Accessibility (on macOS 27: Device Control and Data Access).
To update, quit macshot and replace the app. If macOS blocks the new version, do step 2 again. macshot checks GitHub once a day and tells you when a new release is out. To turn this off, go to Settings → About.
This release uses the bundle ID com.giladpeleg.macshot and the shared Gilad Peleg Local Signing identity used by local builds. Compared with the former com.pgilad.macshot builds, it has a separate sandbox for history and settings and needs new Screen Recording and Accessibility grants. Your previous data remains in the old container; it is not migrated automatically.

Changes
- Change the bundle ID to
com.giladpeleg.macshot. - Use the shared
Gilad Peleg Local Signingidentity for local builds and this release. - Import the existing signing backup on other build Macs instead of creating another key.
- Require explicit ad-hoc signing instead of silently falling back when the shared identity is missing.

The first release of this fork of sw33tLie/macshot, based on upstream 4.4.0-beta.6. It keeps the screenshot and annotation tool and removes everything that records, uploads or connects to the network.
Removed
- Screen recording and the video editor (Studio).
- Uploads to imgbb, Google Drive and S3, OCR translation, and Sparkle auto-update. The app has no network entitlement and makes no network requests.
- Rich-text clipboard pins, WebP saving and localization (the app is in English).
- Support for macOS releases before 26.
Changed
- Built with SwiftPM and the Command Line Tools in the Swift 6 language mode, with no third-party packages.
- Only Capture Area (⇧⌘X) has a default global hotkey. A global hotkey needs ⌘, ⌥ or ⌃, or a function key, and a hotkey that cannot register is reported.
- The censor tool and auto-redact use a solid fill by default, because pixelated or blurred text can sometimes be read back. A capture with a redaction is stored in history flattened only.
- The
macshot://URL scheme is off by default and can only start a capture or open Settings. - Element snapping changes accessibility settings of Chromium and Electron apps only when you turn that on in Settings.
Fixed and improved
- Settings, the editor, OCR results and the open and save panels open in front of the app that you work in.
- Very large images from files, the clipboard, stamps and paste are rejected before they draw, instead of using gigabytes of memory.
- Clear messages when macOS denies macshot the clipboard, one Accessibility dialog at a time, and the permission names that System Settings uses on macOS 26 and 27.
- Capture thumbnails and app icons stay visible in macOS 27 menus.
- ⌘, opens Settings from any macshot window, Launch at login shows the state that macOS keeps, and VoiceOver can name the toolbar buttons.
- Scroll capture stitches tall pages much faster and with less memory.
- From the upstream 4.4.0 betas: press R to restore the last capture area,
{app}and date-part filename tokens with subfolders, opt-in clipboard copies in the selected image format, displays captured one at a time, and macOS 27 OCR fixes.
