v0.5.0 — Agent-led workstation setup
v0.5.0 — Agent-led workstation setup
Install the release wheel, run install-skills, then ask your agent to use codex-a2a-setup. The agent configures the requested direction, reuses existing authentication, and asks only for missing required values such as the inbound workspace. The companion codex-a2a skill teaches delegation, continuation, retrieval and conservative timeout handling.
- Packaged setup/usage skills with an absolute nonsecret runtime reference; no checkout or PATH dependency after installation.
install-skillssupports custom destinations, read-only checks/dry-runs, unchanged-install idempotency and reviewed replacement of managed files while preserving unrelated content.doctor --mode outbound|inbound|bothadds inbound readiness without Hermes; sign-in, model execution and worker tools remain explicitly unverified by these read-only checks.- MCP stdio compatibility covers modern
2026-07-28and legacy2025-11-25, schema discovery, structured/text results, execution-error flags and unknown-tool protocol errors. - Persistent launcher guidance handles GUI startup, environment-sourced secrets and explicit workspace/state ownership. Auto-start remains optional. Codex worker MCP visibility is checked in its actual execution context.
Install on macOS/Linux with CPython 3.11. Download the wheel and source distribution together with SHA256SUMS, verify the checksums, then install the wheel into a dedicated environment. See agent-led setup and deployment/upgrade.
This release preserves the v0.4.0 durable-task contract and adds no database schema migration. Results still require pull retrieval; cancellation is best-effort; Desktop-only tools are not automatically inherited. Windows/WSL, public multi-user deployment and live authentication/model/RAG execution are not newly certified by this release. No PyPI publication is included.
The release workflow builds and tags the exact successful main/push CI commit bearing [release v0.5.0], uploads a draft, downloads and verifies all three assets, then publishes. Existing mismatching tags or published assets are never overwritten. See validation.
v0.4.0 — Durable bidirectional jobs
v0.4.0 — Durable bidirectional jobs
Codex and Hermes retain the same job across caller timeouts, late replies and
supported continuations. Handles are saved before discovery, recovery requires
exact request/task identity, and paginated reconciliation refuses ambiguous matches.
Independent contexts can run concurrently while each context serializes its turns.
Origin handles, attempt deduplication, stable result receipts and additive SQLite
schema 5 preserve attribution and consumption state. The bundled Hermes plugin
suppresses duplicate submissions and permits explicit replay only when the receiver
proves execution never started. Acknowledged Codex turns can be recovered through
read-only exact history lookup after a gateway restart.
Validation
The implementation passed 88 tests (73.63% coverage), macOS/Ubuntu CI, App Server
schema checks, clean-wheel installation and isolated VPS live checks. Live calls in
both directions expired one-second waits and later returned the correct result on
the same handle without resending. Four concurrent contexts retained their mapping;
duplicate and restart checks preserved identity without executing the job again.
The release workflow waits for CI success on the exact merged main commit, builds
and validates distributions, then downloads and verifies every uploaded asset before
publishing. See the validation report.
Upgrade and limits
Download the wheel, source archive and SHA256SUMS; verify the manifest before
installation. Stop existing gateway/MCP writers and back up state before upgrading.
Run only one writer per SQLite file and replace the bundled Hermes plugin in its
intended profile. Follow the upgrade guide.
Delivery remains durable pull with receipts: there is no automatic originating-thread
wake-up or result injection. Missing exact peer correlation or a pre-turn ACK stays
unknown; do not blindly resend. Native suspended input/approval RPCs are not reattached.
Worker tools do not inherit Desktop capabilities. Live web/file-read passed; file-write
was read-only, and browser-control/auth plus native input were not live established.
The older VPS Codex used compatible gpt-5.6-sol; Astra was not supported there.
This GitHub release does not publish to PyPI or deploy/update production services.
v0.3.0
Highlights
- Bundled durable Hermes codex_a2a plugin with handle-only persistence, timeout-safe recovery, polling, cancellation, and TASK_STATE_INPUT_REQUIRED continuation.
- Optional negotiated Hermes/A2A to Codex model and reasoning-preferences extension with receiver-side App Server validation.
- Loopback-only plugin transport, redirect rejection, Agent Card preflight, and an exact v0.2.2 to v0.3.0 VPS upgrade/rollback guide.
Upgrade
Stop the existing gateway and Codex MCP writers before backing up SQLite and installing the exact v0.3.0 wheel. Do not run old and new processes against the same state database. Install or replace the Hermes plugin with install-hermes-plugin --replace, verify the existing MCP registration, then restart once. The deployment guide includes the complete upgrade and safe rollback sequence. Verify downloads with the included SHA256SUMS.
v0.2.2 — Community-Ready Beta
Community-ready public beta patch for reliable cross-machine installation and agent operation.
Highlights:
- Runtime, MCP, Agent Card, doctor, App Server, and User-Agent metadata now report one package version.
- Release-wheel quickstarts use the installed executable consistently.
- Generic A2A lifecycle documentation covers submit, poll, continue, input-required, stream, and cancel.
- Standard wheel, source archive, and SHA256SUMS assets with automated manifest verification.
- Focused troubleshooting and safe rollback to v0.2.1.

v0.2.1 — Deployment Ready Beta
Deployment-hardening patch for installing codex-a2a-gateway on another computer.
Highlights:
- versioned release-wheel installation without cloning the repository;
- clean-wheel installation validated on macOS and Linux CI with CPython 3.11;
- deployment guide covering Codex MCP registration, Hermes peer setup, state migration, upgrade, rollback, and uninstall;
- CLI --version support;
- explicit support boundary: Windows/WSL and container deployment are not yet verified.
