Photo Contest Platform Documentation


1. Overview

A photo contest platform designed for college students or any individual to compete and increase reach in photo challenges.

  • Core Mechanic: The platform features both tight, 3-day Friend Battles (1-on-1 or small group) and a longer, 7-day Global Challenge.
  • Viral Requirement: Users cannot vote in any contest unless at least one of their friends (added via username) is currently a participant in that specific contest.
  • Key Success Metric: High Daily Active Users (DAU) and contest participation rate.

2. Target Audience

  • Primary Users: College students (16-24 years old).
  • Behavioral Profile: Competitive, social, looking for recognition (status), and love cheap fun challenges.
  • Spending Capacity: ₹10-₹50 casually per contest cycle.

3. Contest Flow & Mechanics

The platform will feature two distinct contest types: Friend Battle (3-day) and Global Challenge (7-day).

3.1. Friend Battle Flow (3-Day Slot System)

3.2. Global Challenge Flow (7-Day Slot System)

  • Frequency: Runs once every 7 days.
  • Participation: Open to all users, with prizes for the top finalists.
  • Structure: Follows the same 3-phase flow but extended to 7 days.

3.3. Critical Enhancements

  • Voter Eligibility (Crucial Rule): A user can only cast votes (free or paid) for a specific contest if at least one person they have added as a friend is a participant in that contest.
  • Photo Source: Users must have uploaded photos to their profile prior to submission.
  • Account Privacy: Users can set their account to Public or Private. Email verification is not necessary.

4. Monetization Model

4.1. Votes (Primary Revenue Driver)

  • Pricing Tier: (1 vote = 10 Mono coins)
    • ₹10 = 100 Mono coins
    • ₹20 = 220 Mono coins (10% Bonus)
    • ₹50 = 700 Mono coins (40% Bonus)
  • Coin-to-Vote Deadline: Mono coins can only be cast as votes prior to 2 hours of the result declaration.

4.2. Free Coins via Ads

  • Ad Reward: Watching an ad earns 20 Mono coins.
  • Frequency: Ads are available once every hour.

4.3. Sponsored Challenges (Future Growth)

  • Integrate sponsored contests (e.g., "The XYZ Brand Photo Challenge").

5. Legal Safety

  • Mandatory: Avoid all cash prizes to prevent classification as gambling.
  • Prizes: Use gift vouchers, non-transferable coupons, and sponsored rewards.
  • Skill vs. Chance: Clearly define the contest in the Terms of Service (ToS) as a Skill/Popularity Competition.
  • Vote Manipulation: Implement robust fraud detection.

6. Growth Strategy

6.1. Referral Boosts

  • Referral Mechanic:
    • Referrer Gets: 5 votes + 50 Mono coins.
    • Referred Gets: 50 Mono coins.
  • Activation Condition: The referred person must cast at least 20 votes for the rewards to be distributed.

6.2. Social Integration

  • Friend Connection: Users can add friends searchable through their usernames.
  • Contest Visibility: Contests pages must highlight contacts who are currently participating within that specific challenge.
  • Campus Leaderboards: Filter by college to encourage inter-college rivalry.

7. UI/UX Notes (Prioritized Features)

  • Homepage: Current contest/theme, prominent countdown timer, trending photos (grid), and Leaderboard preview (Top 3).
  • Contest Page: Upload button, clear rules, flow visualizer, and a clear section or indicator for participating contacts.
  • Voting Page:
    • Pre-voting Check: If the user has no participating friends, the vote button is inactive and a clear, prominent message is displayed: "Invite a friend to join this contest to unlock voting!"
    • Grid view of entries.
    • Large, single-tap Vote button (active only after the social check).
  • Profile Page (Hub): User entries, Mono coins balance, Referral system link/stats, and Redeem Prizes/Vouchers section.
  • Leaderboard: College filter + overall ranking. Must be fast-loading and show relative progress.
