To get Vimium in all new tabs, with focus on the omnibar, on Firefox:
. Go to about:keyboard in Firefox
. Clear Ctrl+T binding
. Add map <c-t> createTab to your Vimium key mappings
. Toggle Vimium blank new tab page and check the box that says Open the Vomnibar... in Vimium settings, under New tab URL
. Save changes
This works for me without the new companion extension.
NOTE: This will disable keyboard new tabs with Ctrl+T on pages that don't support Vimium, which in my experience is just Firefox settings, forum, and config pages. You can still use the mouse to hit the plus. If this is not acceptable for you, you can re-bind Ctrl+T in Firefox, or use a different binding in Vimium to preserve both options.
