PhotoPress adds gallery layouts, slideshows, image metadata, image taxonomies and image search to WordPress. This wiki documents each feature: its settings, how it works, the WordPress and third-party hooks it uses, and its limits.
The pages describe PhotoPress 2.0.0. Code links point to commit b6499f6.
| Requirement | Version or note |
|---|---|
| WordPress | 6.6 or later. Dynamic galleries in the Gallery Slideshow block need 7.1. |
| Block editor | The galleries and blocks are block-editor features. |
| PHP Imagick extension | Needed to embed licensing metadata in uploads and to apply ImageMagick resource limits. Other features work without it. |
All settings are in PhotoPress › Settings, on six tabs: Gallery, Slideshow, Metadata, Pages & Search, Image Sizes and Offload Media.
- Gallery Layouts: Masonry, Rows and Mosaic layouts for the core Gallery block.
- Full-Screen Slideshow: opens when a gallery image is clicked.
- Gallery Slideshow Block: a slideshow of a gallery on the same page.
- Taxonomy Gallery: a gallery of the images in a taxonomy term.
- Child Pages Gallery: a gallery of the pages under a page.
- Gallery Images Added and Removed: uploads added to a gallery, and deleted images removed from galleries.
- Image Templates and Blocks: block templates for image archives, image pages and search.
- Image Taxonomies: terms read from EXIF, IPTC and XMP on upload.
- Alt Text and Descriptions: alt text and descriptions from metadata.
- Licensing: license metadata embedded in uploads and published as JSON-LD.
- Background Jobs
- Lifecycle and Data: activation, updates, deactivation, uninstall and stored data.
- Hooks Reference: every hook PhotoPress provides and uses.
