🚀 phpBB Migration Center v0.1.0-alpha.1

We are pleased to announce the first developer preview and initial testing release of phpBB Migration Center (v0.1.0-alpha.1) — an enterprise-grade, extensible forum migration framework built for phpBB 3.3+.

Warning

Alpha Development Release:
This release is intended strictly for community testing and developer feedback on backed-up staging environments. Do not use it against a live production database without independent testing, complete database/filesystem backups, and a verified recovery plan.

📦 What's Included in This Release

🧩 1. Core Framework Architecture

  • Decoupled Architecture: Separation of shared migration orchestration from platform-specific connector logic.
  • Keyset-Based Cursor Pagination: Scalable batch processing using sequential primary key cursors instead of slow SQL OFFSET.
  • Bounded Memory Profile: Memory reclamation after each committed batch to prevent memory limit exhaustion on large databases.
  • State Machine & Persistence: Authoritative database state recording current stages, cursors, items counts (created, updated, reused, skipped, failed), processing rates, and worker heartbeats.

🖥️ 2. Dual Execution Workers

  • Browser AJAX Worker: Live ACP dashboard with percentage counters, real-time ETA, processing rate, error logs, and stage checkpoints.
  • CLI Background Worker: Long-running terminal daemon (php bin/phpbbcli.php migrationcenter:run ...) with heartbeat monitoring, distributed lock management, and timeout-free execution.

⏸️ 3. Controlled Stages & Checkpoints

  • 15-Stage Canonical Pipeline: Groups, users, memberships, global permissions, forums, forum permissions, topics, posts/BBCode, attachments, avatars, conversations, PM messages, PM attachments, polls/votes, and bans.
  • Manual Stage Checkpoints: Automatic pauses after each completed stage producing reconciliation summaries for administrator review before advancing.
  • Interruption Recovery & Resume: Continual state saving allowing exact-cursor resumption after disconnections or server restarts.

  • XenForo Connector: Alpha — Under active testing (Supports XenForo 2.x and 1.5.x schemas, password hashes, attachments, and hierarchical forum trees).

🔐 5. Password & Permission Handlers

  • Universal Password Compatibility: Native authentication for supported source hashes (Bcrypt, Argon2, SHA-256, MD5 Salted) with transparent re-hashing into phpBB native format on first login.
  • Conservative Permission Translation: Exact and reduced-fidelity mapping with safe defaults; strict protection for existing phpBB founders and anonymous users.

🔍 6. Finalization & Integrity Verification

  • Automated Recounts: Topic/post counts and board statistics synchronization.
  • Search Index Builder: Batch indexing for fulltext native / Sphinx engines.
  • 11-Rule Health & Relational Verifier: Automated checks for orphan records, physical attachment files on disk, multilingual UTF-8/Persian/Arabic fidelity, and ACL safety.

📋 Installation (Alpha Testing)

  1. Clone or extract the extension into your phpBB directory at:
