phpBB Migration Center v1.0.0-beta.5
We are pleased to announce the release of phpBB Migration Center v1.0.0-beta.5! This release introduces an enterprise-grade Permanent 301 Redirection and SEO preservation infrastructure, major performance optimizations for post-migration recounts and synchronization, critical reliability fixes for large-scale migrations (500,000+ records), and our first community-contributed research documentation.
🚀 What's New in v1.0.0-beta.5
🛡️ 1. Enterprise Permanent 301 Redirection & SEO Preservation
Platform migrations carry a severe risk of organic search traffic loss due to 404 errors. This release introduces a comprehensive solution to preserve 100% of your Google PageRank, backlinks, and search rankings:
- Permanent ID Mapping Table (
phpbb_migration_id_map): Maps every legacy topic, post, forum, and user ID to its newly assigned phpBB ID. - Data Safety Guarantee: The mapping table is deliberately preserved upon extension deactivation or uninstallation, ensuring existing redirects never break.
- Standalone Fast Redirector (
legacy_redirect.php): A lightweight, zero-dependency script located in your forum root that queries the mapping table and issues301 Moved Permanentlyheaders with sub-2ms response times. - Native phpBB SEO Framework Integration: Automatically routes old URLs directly to modern canonical slug URLs (e.g.,
/topic/123-slug). - Interactive ACP Rewrite Rule Generator: Dynamic copyable configuration cards for both Apache / LiteSpeed (
.htaccess) and Nginx (nginx.conf) for XenForo, vBulletin, MyBB, and SMF directly in the ACP Overview, Progress, and Finalize views.
⚡ 2. High-Performance Finalization & Recounts Engine
When finalizing large migrations (tested on 680,000+ records), recalculating stats previously risked webserver execution timeouts and HTTP 500 errors:
- Set-Based Bulk SQL Synchronization: Replaced iterative PHP loops with optimized relational SQL statements to update topic first/last post pointers, reply counts, and forum statistics in seconds.
- Chunked Post Recounts: Post synchronization is now bounded in configurable batches to prevent memory exhaustion and execution timeouts on large enterprise forums.
- Decoupled Search Indexing: Search indexing is managed as an isolated background queue, avoiding gateway timeouts while ensuring search index health.
🔒 3. Reliability & Data Protection Fixes
- Credential Fallback & Preservation: Ensured external database passwords and connection options are preserved reliably across async worker steps.
- Step 5 Review & State Guard: Resolved an issue where selected migration steps could be cleared before plan initialization.
- Auto-Release Stale Locks: Automatically clears migration locks if worker initialization is canceled or interrupted.
- ACP Twig Template Fix: Fixed an unclosed template conditional tag that caused 500 errors when loading the
.MODS(Extensions) admin tab.
📖 4. Community Contributions & Future Engine Research
- PR #1 Merged: Comprehensive community-contributed research analyzing future candidate connectors (FluxBB, Kunena, PunBB, Flarum, and others), complete with schema references and priority rankings.
- Multi-Engine Documentation in README: Expanded
README.mdwith complete, copy-paste ready Apache and Nginx 301 rewrite rules for XenForo, vBulletin, MyBB, and SMF.
🧪 Automated Testing & CI
- Automated Tests: 30/30 unit and integration tests passing (
php tests/ci_runner.php). - PHP Compatibility: Verified across PHP 7.4, 8.0, 8.1, 8.2, and 8.3.
- phpBB Compatibility: phpBB 3.3.0 through 3.3.x.
