The first release of Tamka, an on-device dictation app for the Mac.

Tamka-macOS-arm64.zip is for Macs with Apple silicon running macOS 26 or later. Unzip it, drag Tamka into Applications and open it. Tamka is signed and notarized by Apple.

On first launch, Settings › Models opens and offers Parakeet Ultra (632 MB). Allow Accessibility so Tamka can paste the text, and allow the microphone the first time you dictate. The default shortcut is ⌃V.

What's in it

  • Press ⌃V, speak and press ⌃V again, and Tamka types the text into the app you're using.
  • Speech recognition on the Neural Engine with NVIDIA's Parakeet models, or Apple Speech. Audio never leaves the Mac.
  • Filler removal, stutter cleanup and 112 spoken commands such as "comma", "new line" and "open paren", which you can edit.
  • A listening indicator you can drag anywhere, and your last five dictations in the menu bar.
  • About 0.5 GB of memory with Parakeet Ultra loaded. On an M5 Max, text arrives about 0.2 seconds after you stop.
