FrogAlert 0.2.0-beta.16

This release fixes a delayed spontaneous screen-on observed after hardware
shutdown. The inherited FOSSASIA power path armed the active-low charger-status
output on PA0 as a falling-edge wake source. A charger-state transition or
electrical glitch could therefore wake the CH582 long after the user turned
the badge off, and FrogAlert previously accepted that reset as permission to
boot normally.

FrogAlert screen off now enables only the exact-profile top/system button and
the KEY2 recovery input. Charger status remains readable during normal
operation but cannot wake shutdown. Early boot also fails closed: if no valid
button remains asserted, the badge immediately returns to shutdown instead of
lighting the matrix.

The beta.15 low-power and BadgeMagic transfer hardening remains unchanged.
These changes are source- and CI-audited, not physical proof; both exact PCB
profiles still require prolonged plugged and unplugged screen-off tests,
explicit wake, KEY2 recovery, current measurement, and Android uploads.

FrogAlert 0.2.0-beta.15

This release restores beta.12's low-power CH582 hardware shutdown after the
owner determined that beta.12's Android BadgeMagic upload failure was most
likely environmental Bluetooth congestion rather than a firmware regression.
Screen off waits for passive discovery to become idle, stops the display and
button timers, and enters hardware shutdown. Exact-profile wake handling still
preserves the continuously held KEY2 path into mask-ROM ISP.

The inherited BadgeMagic FEE0/FEE1 receive path is also hardened without
changing the Android protocol. The accepted connection now receives the
upstream-intended connection-parameter request with a six-second supervision
timeout. The receiver reserves the app's complete padded 16-byte final packet,
bounds declared content below FrogAlert's configuration block, rejects nonzero
ATT offsets, checks the Data-Flash result, resets partial state on disconnect,
and no longer dumps every received byte through the debug channel.

FOSSASIA's current Android app sends 16-byte writes with responses, spaces them
by 120 ms, and retries failed writes. These firmware changes preserve that
contract. They are source- and CI-audited, not a physical proof: both exact PCB
profiles still require upload, disconnect/retry, screen-off current, wake, and
KEY2 recovery tests.

@github-actions github-actions released this 26 Aug 01:57

FrogAlert 0.2.0-beta.14

This release restores Android BadgeMagic name-upload compatibility by
withdrawing beta.12's hardware-shutdown experiment. The owner reported that
the same Android app and badge could upload a new name on beta.11 but not on
beta.12. The legacy FEE0 service, FEE1 write characteristic, and packet
parser were unchanged between those releases; the only firmware runtime change
was the new shutdown and early-wake integration.

Beta.14 restores beta.11's recoverable application screen off. The physical
top button cycles normal → Bluetooth download → screen off → normal. While
dark, the firmware disables advertising and passive discovery, stops display
refresh, and releases the LED matrix, but keeps the button, TMOS, USB, and
unchanged KEY2 recovery tasks alive.

This deliberately gives up beta.12's lower-power hardware shutdown until a new
design passes BadgeMagic upload, screen-off current, wake, and KEY2 recovery
tests on both exact PCB profiles. The beta.14 pair remains CI-audited and
hardware-unverified until the fix is confirmed on a physical badge.

FrogAlert 0.2.0-beta.12

This release changes screen off from an application-only dark state to the
CH582 hardware shutdown path used by the standard FOSSASIA firmware. Passive
discovery is cancelled and confirmed idle before shutdown, so BLE, USB, TMOS,
both application timers, and matrix drive are no longer kept running while dark.

Wake remains bound to the exact board profile. B1144C_260404 wakes from its
physical-top KEY2 button; B1144C_250901 wakes from physical-top KEY1 and also
arms KEY2 so a continuously held recovery press can still enter mask-ROM ISP.
A marked shutdown wake cold-boots the application. KEY2 is qualified at the
inherited 200 ms cadence before USB or display startup, and the 250901 image
returns to shutdown after a sub-threshold KEY2 recovery press.

The detector chart also groups both Meta-glasses hints together above the
Axon/TASER name hints while keeping frog dance at the highest priority.

The two exact counter images are built, audited, and published by the canonical
GitHub Actions workflow. The homepage downloads and guided flasher resolve the
same atomic release pair from the same-origin manifest.

This release is source- and CI-audited, not hardware-tested. Keep
hardware_verified: false until both exact images pass current measurement,
top-button off/wake without USB, charge wake, repeated cycles, BadgeMagic
upload, and a continuous KEY2-from-dark ISP test.

FrogAlert 0.2.0-beta.9

This FrogAlert release was built, audited, and published automatically by the canonical GitHub Actions workflow so it can be flashed directly from a phone.

Two exact counter images are included:

  • the top-button image for PCB marking B1144C_260404;
  • the bottom-button image for PCB marking B1144C_250901.

The release preserves the BadgeMagic nametag and upload path while adding FrogAlert's passive Bluetooth survey, counter, and configured alerts. The site checks the selected image's profile, size, SHA-256, startup sentinel, and quarantine status before programming, then verifies the programmed bytes.

This is a CI-audited release and has not been physically smoke-tested before publication. Match the button path shown by the mobile flasher to the badge, keep the badge connected through verification, and remember that the original read-protected OEM image cannot be backed up or restored.

Replacing the original read-protected firmware is irreversible: the OEM image cannot be backed up or restored. Use only the artifact whose exact hardware profile and physical PCB marking match the opened badge.

The browser flasher downloads the same-origin copy from frogalert.org/flash/, recalculates its SHA-256 locally, and still requires every normal identification, board-binding, consent, program, and byte-verification step. wchisp remains the command-line fallback.
