Nova Display Calibration 1.0.2

Fixes issue #3: version 1.0.1 could show Could not verify the display color settings. Profile not saved. even with saturation already at 100%. Operation details included printf: Argument list too long.

This was an app bug, not a missed setup step. Android's display diagnostic report could exceed the size accepted by a command argument. The app now reads that report as a stream and retains only the internal display's color matrix. Incomplete, failed, ambiguous or malformed reports are still rejected.

Updating

  1. Download Nova-Display-Calibration-1.0.2.apk and install it over your existing version. No uninstall is needed; the signing key is unchanged.
  2. Open Nova Calibration and select Gamma 2.2 or sRGB.
  3. If prompted, choose Reset and apply. The app handles the required saturation reset; you do not need to reinstall OdinTools or reset it manually.
  4. Restart when requested.

The calibration curves, firmware safeguards, permissions and background behavior are unchanged. No new optical measurements were needed or performed.

Validation: 21 decoder checks, 12 installer test methods, and nine parser cases under the physical Nova's Android shell, including reproduction of the old error with a report larger than 2 MB. The signed APK was checked through reset/cancel, profile application, full reboots, original-profile restore, hardware readback and sleep/wake. Verification record.

Nova Display Calibration 1.0.1

Fixes the saturation setup that could keep showing “Set OdinTools saturation to 100%” even after the slider had been reset.

Select Gamma 2.2 or sRGB. If prompted, choose Reset and apply, then restart when requested. The app resets both Android's current and saved saturation to 100% and checks the display before saving the calibration. OdinTools is not required. Cancel makes no changes.

The previous check read only the saved system property, which can differ from the current setting changed by OdinTools. Android's startup handling also requires the exact saved value 1.0; simply accepting an empty or differently formatted value can bring back boosted saturation at reboot. Technical explanation and troubleshooting.

Other color filters are not disabled. If a filter remains active, installation stops with a specific message. Restore original removes the panel calibration and restores saved brightness; the explicit saturation reset remains at 100%.

The Gamma 2.2 and sRGB profiles are unchanged. Firmware and ownership safeguards remain in place. No new permissions, background services, boot receivers or dependencies were added. Logs now distinguish the saved saturation from the internal display's active color transform.

Install this APK over 1.0.0; the signing key is unchanged. No uninstall is needed.

Validation: 21 decoder checks, 10 installer test methods, and physical Nova tests covering cancellation, reset, Gamma 2.2/sRGB/restore with full reboots, hardware readback, and sleep/wake with the app stopped. These are software and hardware-state checks; the measured profile bytes are unchanged and no new optical measurements are claimed. Verification record.

Nova Display Calibration 1.0.0

Measured SDR calibration profiles for the Retroid Pocket Nova: sRGB gamut, D65 white point, Gamma 2.2 or sRGB tone response, and an approximately 225 cd/m² reference at brightness 173/255.

The system loads the profile after a full restart and keeps it through sleep. The app requires no background service and declares no Android permissions. Privileged installation uses the OEM service already present in the supported firmware.

This release packages calibration deltas rather than manufacturer configuration files. The reconstructed outputs match the measured profiles byte for byte. The repository includes 921 RGB/XYZ readings, camera examples, implementation details, and validation records.

Project by pippopapera, developed with substantial assistance from OpenAI Codex in code, measurement analysis, testing, and documentation. Contributors and AI disclosure.

Supported test configuration: Retroid Pocket Nova, firmware RPN_V1.0.0.436_20260722_083524_user. One measured unit; generic OLED CCSS, so absolute colorimetry is provisional. Other firmware/models are unsupported. The test unit already had an unlocked bootloader.

Before uninstalling or updating firmware: select Restore original and restart. Keep system saturation at 100%. OdinTools need not remain installed.

See the README for installation, measurements, compatibility, and recovery. Photos are illustrative; camera processing and viewing conditions affect their appearance.

Updating from official 0.4.0: install this APK over the existing app. Your configured profile is retained.

Download and verification

Download Nova-Display-Calibration-1.0.0.apk below. Android may ask you to allow installation from your browser or file manager. The app itself requests no Android permissions.

  • Package: local.nova.diagnostic; version 1.0.0 (code 5).

SHA256SUMS.txt contains the APK checksum. On Windows, run Get-FileHash .\Nova-Display-Calibration-1.0.0.apk -Algorithm SHA256; on Linux, run sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS.txt in the download directory.

Version 1.0.0 changes only the version metadata from 0.4.0. It retains the same code, calibration assets, resources, and public signing identity. An in-place update was verified on the Nova, with Gamma 2.2 retained and no profile reapplication or reboot required. Update validation. The earlier full profile/reboot/restore and hardware checks remain documented in the 0.4.0 verification record.

Moving from a private laboratory build: its signing key differs. Restore the original profile, restart, then uninstall that build before installing this release. Future official updates should retain this release signing identity.
