@pit711 pit711 released this 11 Oct 23:28

ESPsoup radar firmware 0.7.2 for the ESP32-C6 on the Seeed Studio MR60BHA2 kit (XIAO ESP32-C6 + Hi-Link HLK-LD6002 60 GHz radar). A fork of pit711/espsoup-firmware, which is itself a fork of ESP-SDR by ESPARGOS (GPL-3.0). The SDR side is receive-only.

What it adds on the ESP32-C6:

  • one native-USB connection for both the ESP-SDR protocol and a raw link to the kit's radar module (UART1: TX GPIO16, RX GPIO17, 115200 baud, 16 KB receive buffer)
  • RADAR? → RADAR <n> <crc32> followed by n raw radar bytes (max 4096)
  • RADARTX <hex> → writes up to 60 bytes to the radar, OK
  • RADARINFO? → RADARINFO <ready> <baud> <pending> <bufsize> <rx_total> <tx_total>
  • CAPS gains the token RADAR

All ESP-SDR commands and replies are unchanged. GPIO16/17 are the C6's default UART0 pins, so this build disables the ESP-SDR burst UART0 and the console — use the native USB port. The ESP32-C5 optimisations of ESPsoup (capture engine, BIGCAP, STREAM, PARLIO, FM video …) do not apply to the ESP32-C6; it uses the upstream C6 receiver path. Nothing in this firmware enables the Wi-Fi transmitter; the radar module itself emits 60 GHz, as every radar sensor does.

Install with the ESPsoup app (Device → Firmware: backup first, every write verified; the app offers this firmware for ESP32-C6 boards) or with esptool — back up the old flash first, then write from the release directory:

python -m esptool --chip esp32c6 -p PORT -b 921600 read-flash 0 ALL backup.bin
python -m esptool --chip esp32c6 -p PORT -b 921600 write-flash @flash_args

Assets: bootloader.bin, partition-table.bin, mr60bha2-sdr-firmware-0.7.2-esp32c6-radar.bin, flash_args, manifest.json, README.md, SHA256SUMS, the source mr60bha2-sdr-firmware-0.7.2-source.tar.gz and SHA256SUMS.source. Check the files with sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS and sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS.source. The image is built for 2 MB flash and works on larger flash (e.g. the 4 MB of the XIAO ESP32-C6).

The source code of exactly this build is attached (mr60bha2-sdr-firmware-0.7.2-source.tar.gz, git archive of commit 699e499) and is the v0.7.2 tag of this repository; built with ESP-IDF 25fe69f9 and the profile sdkconfig.defaults.esp32c6-radar. Binaries may only be redistributed together with this source (GPL-3.0-or-later, see NOTICE).

Tested: 2026-10-12 on a Seeed MR60BHA2 kit (XIAO ESP32-C6 + HLK-LD6002, radar firmware 1.6.12) with the ESPsoup app 0.12.15 on Android — installed via the app's installer (backup + MD5 verify), SDR spectrum and radar link (RADAR?/RADARTX) working, 0 CRC errors.

Experimental, like the ESPsoup radar tool it feeds. Vital signs from the radar are not medical measurements.
