How to build it on Windows?

Prerequisites

To build the modded tar on Windows, you need to:

  1. Install MSYS2.
  2. Install Git on MSYS2 by
pacman -S git`
  1. Clone the MSYS2 packages archive by
git clone https://github.com/msys2/MSYS2-packages.git

Cloning and archiving this repo

Go into MSYS2-packages/tar directory, clone and make an archive of this repo:

cd MSYS2-packages/tar
git clone https://github.com/Catboy96/tar.git
mv tar tar-1.35
tar cvf tar-1.35.tar tar-1.35/
xz tar-1.35.tar

You'll get an XZ archive named tar-1.35.tar.xz

Generate SHA-256 checksum and GPG signing

You'll need to generate the SHA-256 checksum and the GPG signing of the archive.

sha256sum tar-1.35.tar.xz
gpg --detach-sign tar-1.35.tar.xz

You'll need to create GPG identity first to use gpg to sign a file.

Modify the build script

The tar build script is MSYS2-packages/tar/PKGBUILD.

  • Change the 1st line of the array sha256sums to be the SHA-256 checksum of the archive.
  • Change the last 2 lines of the array sha256sums to SKIP.
  • Fill in your GPG public key to validpgpkeys.
sha256sums=('<SHA-256 checksum of tar-1.35.tar.xz>'
            'SKIP'
            'eb43f400cdf1317aac2937cce8eb4f47c7da3b41a6d5b10369cf9cbf9f33e244'
            'SKIP'
            'SKIP')
validpgpkeys=('<Your GPG public key>')
