Editing large documents just got dramatically cheaper: the preview now updates in place instead of rebuilding from scratch, Quick Look shows your text before it loads diagram machinery, YAML frontmatter renders as a proper panel, and standard LaTeX math delimiters are supported.

Added

  • YAML frontmatter renders in document previews. Documents that start with a frontmatter block now show it as a formatted panel instead of raw text (#219, #217).
  • Standard LaTeX math delimiters are supported. Math written as \(...\) and \[...\] — including Markdown-escaped forms — now renders alongside the existing $...$ and $$...$$ syntax (#224, #226, #222).
  • A CPU/memory benchmark harness for contributors. scripts/bench/ measures first paint, update times, and per-process RSS/CPU for the app and Quick Look, with a new Mermaid-heavy stress sample; it produced the numbers below (#223).

Changed

  • Preview updates are now incremental, cutting WebKit CPU by 37% and memory by 16% during editing. Instead of rebuilding the whole page, updates DOM-diff it (via morphdom, the engine behind Phoenix LiveView), so finished Mermaid diagrams, KaTeX math, and highlighted code are left untouched when unrelated text changes — and scroll position and <details> open state survive. Measured while editing a 10-diagram document: WebKit process CPU fell 4.1% → 2.6% and memory 553 → 462 MB mean (568 → 498 MB peak) versus the previous full-rebuild path (#214, #225).
  • Quick Look shows your text before loading diagram machinery. Previews paint the document text first and then light up Mermaid, math, and code highlighting, instead of stalling behind the 3.16 MB Mermaid bundle in documents that use diagrams (#213).

Fixed

  • Files opened from Finder no longer trigger a file-selection dialog. Double-clicking a Markdown file opens it directly (#220, #216).
  • Vertical spacing between blocks is consistent again. Paragraphs, lists, and headings no longer show irregular gaps in read mode (#221, #211).
