Random screen size switches

I've noticed some odd issue which occurs randomly while playing PSX games in full screen and switching desktops. Every once in a while the screen seems to shrink, and the image gets cropped. I'm not sure if it's not core- or game-specific. I didn't encounter it in Wild Arms, but I do experience it in Final Fantasy IX.

I know that a lot of consoles like PS1 do resolution changes when they go into a menu. Have you tried playing this game on a different emulator to see if this happens. I will try to replicate this issue.

I don't think it's related to in-game resolution changes in this case. I've added the menu screenshot just as an example of the cropping, since it might not be obvious in the world or a city. The issue occurs randomly, I'd say about one in ten times, on the world map, in towns, during fights – the trigger is basically switching the desktops.
