Themes
The sun/moon button now opens a slider with six themes, darkest to lightest: Black, Dark, Midnight, Sepia, Cream and White. Drag the handle (it snaps to each dot), click a dot, or use the arrow keys, and the window fades into each theme as you pass it.
- Three new looks. Midnight is a deep violet dark theme. Sepia and Cream are warm light themes, Sepia the warmer of the two.
- ⇧⌘L (Ctrl+Shift+L on Windows and Linux) still flips between light and dark, and now returns to whichever dark and light theme you last picked.
- Following your system. Click Match system under the slider to go back to following your computer's light and dark setting, using your chosen dark and light themes. Settings → Appearance has the same choices.
- Pure black is now the Black theme. If you had Pure black on, you'll land on Black.

Dictation
Talk instead of typing. Press ⇧⌘D (Ctrl+Shift+D on Windows and Linux) or click the microphone at the top of the page, and say what you want to write. Your words show up in a small bar a sentence or so at a time. Finish (↵) puts them at the cursor as one change you can undo; Discard (Esc) throws them away.
- Dialogue gets its quotation marks. Say "Let's go to the movies, John said" and it's written down as “Let’s go to the movies,” John said. It gets about four lines in five right, so read it over. You can turn it off in Settings.
- Spoken commands. Say "new paragraph", "new line", "scene break", or "open quote" … "close quote" as you go.
- Your names, spelled right. Names from the story bible are passed along to the speech model.
- On your computer. Dictation needs a one-time download of a speech model: Standard (574 MB, best on Apple Silicon) or Light (190 MB, English only). After that it runs entirely on your computer, and nothing you say leaves it. Choose or delete models in Settings → Dictation.
The first dictation after installing takes about 20 seconds to get ready while the speech model warms up. After that it's ready in under a second.

Takes and saved versions
Every chapter now has a Versions tab in the notes panel.
- Takes. Write another version of a chapter beside the first: a darker ending, another point of view. Only the take in the book is exported, counted and read by the story bible. Put in the book swaps one in and keeps the take it replaces. When a chapter has more than one take, a "Take:" button under its title switches between them.
- Saved versions. Save version (⌥⌘S) keeps a copy of a chapter as it is now, with an optional name. Quillier also saves one each time you sit down to write and when you mark a chapter Drafted, Revised or Done. After a few days, the automatic ones thin out to one a day.
- Compare. Click a version, or compare two takes, to see the chapter marked up like a manuscript: cut words struck through, new words tinted. Each change has Use old and Keep in the margin. Side by side puts the two texts next to each other, and Only changed paragraphs folds away the rest. Restore this version saves what you have first, so nothing is lost.
Character portraits
Characters in the story bible can have a drawn portrait, built from hair, face shape, eyes, brows, nose, mouth, facial hair, glasses, earrings and colors, or shuffled. They can also have an optional gender and age, and the first portrait starts from a face that fits them. Portraits show in the character list and the relationship graph.

Journals and notebooks
New… in the Library can now start a journal or a notebook as well as a book. Both are a single .quill file with the same editor, side notes and notes on text, but no chapters, outline or story bible.
- Journal. Dated entries, newest first, grouped by month (click a month to fold it). ⌘N starts today's entry. Click an entry's date to move it to another day. Exports print each entry under its date, and imported files whose name or first heading starts with a date (
2026-10-26 Rain all day) keep it. - Notebook. For research and study notes: unnumbered pages in folders, as deep as you like. Each page shows the folders it sits in above its title.
- In the Library. Journals and notebooks get their own sections, with entry or page counts and the date of a journal's last entry. The menus, export window and side panel say entries or pages instead of chapters.

A print-ready book PDF
- Real trim sizes. The Book PDF export now sets a paperback interior at 5×8, 5.5×8.5 or 6×9 inches, ready to send to a printer. Pick the size in the export window; it's saved with the project.
- Set like a printed book. Mirrored margins with extra room at the spine, justified and hyphenated text, chapters that start a third of the way down a new page, page numbers at the foot, and running heads: the book's title on left-hand pages, the chapter's on right-hand pages.
- Clean display pages. The title page and part pages fall on right-hand pages with a blank page behind them. None of them, and no chapter's first page, carries a page number or running head.

Folders, parts and story structures
- Start from a structure. New projects can start blank or from Three-Act, Save the Cat!, The Hero’s Journey, Seven-Point or Story Circle. Each act becomes a folder in the Outline and each beat a page, pre-filled with notes on what should happen there for you to write over.
- Folders in the Outline and the manuscript, as deep as you like (Part One → Act I → beats). Drag pages in and out, collapse them, or remove a folder and keep what's in it. Chapter numbers ignore folders.
- Show in manuscript. Turn it on for an outline folder and the manuscript gets a matching folder. The two share a name, and the manuscript folder's notes panel shows what the outline says about that part.
- Book parts. Mark a manuscript folder as a book part and exports start it with its own “Part One” page. EPUB contents nest its chapters underneath.
- Link chapters to beats. Pick the beats a chapter covers. Their outline notes show alongside the chapter, and each beat shows which chapters cover it.
- Notes follow you down the page. The notes panel now lists only the notes on text you can see. Show all lists every note on the page.
