Release list
PolyRelate v2.5
PolyRelate v2.5
New
- Capture and Save (⌃⌘S) — for a file in Finder, or a document open in Word, PowerPoint, or Excel: captures it like Capture (⌃⌘C), and also copies the file itself into iCloud so the same bookmark opens from your iPhone too, not just a reference back to this Mac
- A real menu bar for the Bookmarks window — App, File, Edit, Bookmark, View, and Window menus appear whenever the Bookmarks window is active, alongside the existing menu-bar-icon popup and right-click menu. All three now share the exact same actions, so nothing differs between them
- Copy Link and Verify, reachable from the new Bookmark menu and the right-click menu alike — Verify re-checks a single bookmark's own links on demand, without running a full Refresh
- The Bookmarks window now opens automatically when PolyRelate launches
Changed
- "Bookmark browser" is now called "Open PolyRelate" in the menu-bar icon's popup and the Dock menu
- The Bookmarks window automatically checks for new bookmarks (e.g. captured from your iPhone) every time it comes back into focus — no need to click Rescan by hand
- The Relations Refresh button now uses a clearly different icon (a circled "R") from the "Rescan for new Bookmarks" button right next to it — they used to look nearly identical
- Help content expanded: a new "Linking Notes" section covering how to paste links (the primary feature — Relations tracking is a byproduct of it, not the main event), plus coverage of Capture and Save, Tags, and the new menu bar
Fixed
- Capture and Save now tells you clearly when it couldn't copy a file, instead of failing silently — this happens for files living inside another app's own storage, most commonly a Word/Excel/PowerPoint attachment opened straight from Mail
PolyRelate v2.4
PolyRelate v2.4
LinkLayer is now PolyRelate. Renamed after finding an established company already using the LinkLayer name for embedded security/hardware. Everything moved: app name, icon, menu bar glyph, and URL scheme.
New
- New app icon and menu bar glyph — a triangle-graph symbol (three connected nodes) replacing the old chain-link, same coral bookmark shape as before
- New URL scheme,
polyrelate://— everylinklayer://link you've already pasted into Obsidian or Apple Notes keeps working permanently, no action needed - Obsidian plugin now auto-installs and self-updates whenever a vault is set in Settings — no manual plugin install step
- First-run Welcome window now offers to jump straight to Obsidian vault setup if Obsidian is detected on your Mac
- DMG installer now shows step-by-step install/open instructions directly in the window
Fixed
- Capture's "add a note" popup now correctly appears when the frontmost app is in native full-screen mode, on whichever display you're actually using
- Obsidian Paste Link window/link-insertion flicker resolved
- Diagnostic logging added around the Bookmarks browser's dropdown filters, to help chase down an intermittent unresponsive-dropdown report
Unchanged, on purpose
Your macOS permission grants (Accessibility, Automation) carry over with no re-approval needed — the app's underlying identity didn't change, only its name and appearance.
PolyRelate v2.3
LinkLayer v2.3
New
- Tags system — controlled-vocabulary registry, Manage Tags admin (rename/color/delete/merge), tag assignment, Tags filter, Tags column, click-a-pill to quick-filter
- Configurable Link Text for Paste Link — choose what appears in a pasted link's label (Bookmark text, Home, Tags, User Note, Date), each independently toggleable with its own length limit (Settings → Link Text)
- All keyboard shortcuts are now user-configurable (Settings → Keyboard Shortcuts), via the KeyboardShortcuts package
- Google Keep adapter
- Optional grid lines in the Bookmarks List view
Fixed
- ⌃⌘F ("Show in Finder") conflicted with macOS's own system-wide fullscreen shortcut — renamed to ⌃⌘L ("Locate in Finder")
- Obsidian window/link flicker on Paste Link and Show actions
- Menu bar icon's ring detail was invisible (template-image alpha masking bug)
- FROM-only notes (auto-created via Paste Link, never explicitly captured) were incorrectly showing up as standalone Bookmarks rows
- Column resize direction, header/row alignment, and toolbar label alignment in the List view
- Apple Notes relationship verification reliability
Changed
- Relationship terminology: "Backlinks" → "In-links" (matching "Out-links")
- Menu restructured around Capture / Link / Show; Bookmark browser promoted to the top; row context menu flattened
PolyRelate v2.2
Apple Notes — new zero-insertion identification
- Apple Notes bookmarks are now identified by their creation date instead of an inserted marker — nothing is ever written into your notes.
- Cleaned up: old marker-based Apple Notes bookmarks removed and re-creatable under the new scheme; leftover visible marker text removed from previously affected notes.
- Refresh (relations verification) now uses a fast, targeted Apple Notes lookup instead of scanning the whole vault, runs in the background, and shows live progress — the Bookmarks browser stays fully responsive during a refresh.
Dock icon
- On by default now. Left-click opens the Bookmarks browser; right-click shows a Capture/Show/Settings menu mirroring the menu bar.
New app icon
- Replaced the placeholder icon with the new coral bookmark icon (Dock, Finder) and a monochrome menu bar icon.
Bug fixes
- Selecting a relation row could incorrectly highlight an unrelated row elsewhere in the list.
- An Apple Note shown as a linked item sometimes displayed just "Note" instead of "Note · Apple Notes".
- Paste Link into Obsidian could pop open the Bookmarks browser or steal focus.
- Outlook Web link-opening and title display.
Other
- Outlook adapter (desktop app + Outlook Web).
- Bookmarks browser: reorderable columns, toolbar polish.
- Help: added a link back to Welcome from the "What Can I Capture?" page.
- First-run experience: fixed empty Welcome window bug, added a visual pointer to the menu bar icon.
PolyRelate v2.1
Menu v2 and Bookmarks browser toolbar rearrangement.
- Global menu redraw: Bookmark browser and current-bookmark header promoted to the top, dynamic Paste Link label, Show split into From-app/Current hierarchical submenus (In-links, Out-links, Show in Finder, Open in Browser, Edit Note…) with new shortcuts (⌃⌘I/O/F/R/E, ⌃⌘⇧I/O/F/R/E)
- "Backlinks" renamed to "In-links" throughout
- Bookmark row context menu flattened (List, Cards, and Gallery all share the same menu now), added Make Current
- Implicit first-time capture for all "Show — From app" actions, never re-capturing an already-captured Bookmark
- Bookmarks browser toolbar rearranged: View/Filter/Sort/Columns dropdowns grouped and labeled on the left, standalone column-toggle icons consolidated into one Columns dropdown
PolyRelate v2.0
Friend & Family build — Schema v3, Backlinks, Paste Link (selection)
