Can it be made optional? I don't mind it being enabled by default but I prefer clean desktop if possible.

@senntore We are going to add some settings which will allow you to hide desktop icons. I am curious though, why would you have contents in the Desktop folder if you don't want them shown on the desktop?

That's great! I don't usually have files there but sometimes desktop files for steam games are added there, probably because I forget to uncheck the option when installing them. I have the desktop icons extension disabled in Pop OS 22.04, so I didn't gave it much attention at the time.
But yes, it's not as big of an issue.
