Problem installing Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS with NVIDIA using NVIDIA RTX 5060

I upgraded my graphics card to an Nvidia RTX 5060 and I'm having trouble installing Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS with NVIDIA. To avoid driver headaches, I decided to do a clean install of Pop!_OS. I created a new bootable USB drive with the ISO, disabled "Secure Boot" in the BIOS, turned on the PC and booted from the USB drive, everything went smoothly, the Pop!_OS boot screen appeared with the countdown to the installation and everything was fine up to that point. The problem is that after the countdown, the PC restarts and, instead of starting the installation, the screen goes black, shuts down, and the RTX 5060 fans start spinning VERY fast, making a very loud and alarming noise! ​​It's practically impossible to install Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS with NVIDIA with this graphics hardware upgrade. Before, I used a GTX 1080 without any problems on Pop!_OS.

How did you create the USB drive? Did it install in UEFI mode?

USB drive via Popsicle, hash256 verified.
Yes, UEFI.

Did you use the NVIDIA ISO? As the RTX 5000 series requires the 580-open driver to be preinstalled, which is in the NVIDIA ISO.

I can confirm the same issue. Downloaded Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS with NVIDIA, as soon as the installation starts, the screen blanks out and GPU fans start spinning at full speed, almost causing panic. I'm using an ASUS mother board with secure boot disabled and Nvidia RTX5080.

The problem occurs with flashing the ISO directly on the USB or when using ventoy. Please let me know if you need any other information to debug this.

Update: I downloaded the Nvidia ISO.

Same issue here.

Upgrading the GPU from a RTX 3080 to a 5080 on a computer with 22.04 LTS.
Have nvidia-driver-580 installed (580-82-09).

Works fine with Windows.
Get the black screen after systemd boot menu and GPU fans running loud at 100% after 1-2minutes.

I once succeed to SSH from another computer and installed nvidia-driver-580-open (following an advice from reddit).
Since then :

• I still get the black screen
• I cannot SSH the computer anymore
• But the GPU fans doesn't spin fast anymore

Tried the recovery partition : same issue (black screen, 100% fans)
Tried the USB Boot key (with 22.04 Nvidia ISO) : same issue

It worked nice when I get back the 3080 again.

EDIT : I tried to boot a USB key with :

• the new 24.04 LTS (Nvidia ISO) : same issue
• a 22.04 version (Nvidia ISO found on api.pop-os.org) : same issue
• a 22.04 version (Intel ISO found on api.pop-os.org) : same issue

EDIT 2 : I tried to boot from others distros (if it may help) :

• Bazzite NVidia ISO : similar issue.
  I got a black screen (after a a short loading screen),
  but this time with a mouse pointer and GPU fans stay calm.
• CachyOS : successfully installed.

So I'll keep CachyOS until later attempts.

Experiencing the same issue with both the Nvidia and non-Nvidia ISO. I am completely unable to install popos as a result and I don't have a spare GPU to work with or integrated graphics.

Specs are:
NVIDIA RTX 5080
Asus X-570 Pro motherboard
Ryzen 5800X3D
Secure boot disabled

Same thing happened to me couple of days ago.
I had an existing installation from a January nvidia popos 24.04 LTS iso and everything was working.
Then I've upgraded from rtx 4070 to rtx 5080 and upon trying to start the popos, my computer immediately turns the screen black and the fans of the gpu starts spinning at 100%. The only way out of there is reset or shutdown with the pc tower case buttons.
I have tried to install using both nvidia and generic variants of the latest iso images from the popos site (end of march) and right after the initial screen showing the installation is starting, same thing happens. There is nothing to be done.
The nvidia driver is 580 as the description says for the March nvidia popos iso.
The card runs fine on windows at full power, everything works without any problems.
My specs are:
ASUS X570 Dark Hero
AMD Ryzen 5900X
ASUS RTX5080 Proart
64 Gb DDR4
(Secure boot is disabled).

Tried again today with 24.04 LTS - Nvidia - build 24.

Same issue : I got the boot screen with the button "Install PopOS" and the countdown and then the black screen.
But the fans are no longer running at 100%.
