Suspend (s2idle) freezes on resume + bluetooth issue + top bar flickering. kernel 7.0.9 - Framework 16 AMD AI 300 #4016

Description

@sam-l-c

A few problems on kernel 7.0.9-76070009-generic.
Downgrading to 6.18.7-76061807-generic fixes the issues completely.

Summary
1(MAIN): Suspend (s2idle) freezes on resume every time, needs to hold down power button to shut down and reboot.

2: Bluetooth doesn't work.
3: top bar flickers (wifi, bluetooth, etc icons) when hovering mouse on it.

Hardware

  • Laptop: Framework Laptop 16 (AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series)
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370
  • iGPU: AMD Radeon 890M
  • RAM: 64gb
  • Storage: WD PC SN8000S SDEPNRG-2T00
  • eGPU: NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti via OCuLink (not connected during testing)

Software

  • OS: Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS (COSMIC beta)
  • Broken kernel: 7.0.9-76070009-generic
  • Working kernel: 6.18.7-76061807-generic
  • BIOS: 0.0.3.6 (latest)
  • All firmware up to date (verified via fwupdmgr)

Symptom
After suspending (s2idle), the system freezes completely on wake. No response to keyboard, trackpad, or power button short-press. Requires hard power-off via long power button hold.

Logs
Last journal entries before freeze (journalctl -b -1 | tail -20):

Jun 08 18:53:47 pop-os systemd[1]: Reached target sleep.target - Sleep.
Jun 08 18:53:47 pop-os systemd[1]: Starting systemd-suspend.service - System Suspend...
Jun 08 18:53:47 pop-os systemd-sleep[5135]: Performing sleep operation 'suspend'...
Jun 08 18:53:47 pop-os kernel: PM: suspend entry (s2idle)

System enters suspend successfully but never produces any resume log entries — it never wakes.

Sleep mode

$ cat /sys/power/mem_sleep
[s2idle]

Only s2idle is available (no deep/S3).

Steps to reproduce

  1. Boot into kernel 7.0.9-76070009-generic
  2. Suspend the system (close lid or manually suspend)
  3. Attempt to wake — system is completely frozen

Workaround
Booting into the previous kernel 6.18.7-76061807-generic resolves the issue. Suspend and resume work correctly on that kernel with identical hardware and software configuration.

Notes

  • Tested both with and without NVIDIA drivers (580) installed — suspend freeze occurs in both cases
  • NVIDIA drivers are installed for occasional eGPU use (RTX 5070 Ti via OCuLink), eGPU was not connected during any testing
  • No relevant errors in logs before suspend entry
  • Windows on the same machine suspends and resumes without issues

THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR HARD WORK I LOVE POP_OS <3
I'm a complete noob, got help from AI for the bug report, if you want me to do some other testing and send back specific logs or other stuff, don't hesitate to ask!
Have a good day/night!
Sam
