Is it possible to still use Github Copilot for next edit suggestions with the newest version?

After I updated, instead of having the github copilot icon in the bottom right for next edit suggestions, I have the posit assistant magic pen icon and it asks me to log into posit ai (which isn't listed in the language model providers btw). I am logget into my github copilot account and have searched in the settings for anything related but can't find what to change to get my inline suggestions back. The chat is working as expected.

#14014 sounds related but as I am logget into GHCP and don't get suggestions, this feels distinct.

Hey @MaximilianSMA, thanks for the post. The default assistant is now Posit Assistant, which is why you're seeing the sign-in prompt and no longer the Copilot NES icon.

If you want the GitHub Copilot Chat experience back, including Copilot's inline next edit suggestions, set:

"chat.disableAIFeatures": false

in your Settings. That re-enables GitHub Copilot's chat and inline suggestions the way you had them before. We don't plan to remove that from Positron.

Is Inline suggestions still supplied by Github Copilot as Posit Assistant only support NES (with Posit subscription only) correct?

Close, with a couple of clarifications:

• Inline completions (autocomplete/ghost text) are still supplied by GitHub Copilot. Posit AI doesn't do autocomplete-style completions.
• Next Edit Suggestions (NES) can come from either Posit AI or GitHub Copilot's own NES, which returns when you re-enable Copilot with "chat.disableAIFeatures": false.

On the "subscription only" part: you do sign in to a Posit AI account to use its NES, but NES are unlimited and free. Credits apply only to Posit Assistant chat and agentic tasks. And Posit Assistant itself doesn't require Posit AI at all, you can bring your own key for Anthropic, OpenAI, Bedrock, GitHub Copilot, etc.

Do you think you are having problems with Copilot as model provider in Positron, over and above what you see in VS Code? We would expect it to work the same in both IDEs.
