Major update with LSP code navigation (Python), multi-provider support, and security hardening.

Breaking Changes

HTTP Default Binding Changed

Server now binds to 127.0.0.1 instead of 0.0.0.0.

If you need remote access:

relace-mcp --transport http --host 0.0.0.0 --port 8000

find_symbol Uses 1-Indexed Coordinates

The new find_symbol tool uses 1-indexed line/column numbers, matching view_file output.

LSP Code Navigation

New find_symbol tool for semantic code navigation:

find_symbol(action="definition", file="src/main.py", line=42)
find_symbol(action="references", file="src/utils.py", line=15)
  • definition — Jump to where a symbol is defined
  • references — Find all usages of a symbol
  • Auto-detection — Tool is hidden in fast_search when no Python files exist (saves LLM turns)

Multi-Provider Support

Use fast_apply with OpenAI-compatible providers:

Provider Base URL (Auto-detected)
OpenAI https://api.openai.com/v1
OpenRouter https://openrouter.ai/api/v1
Cerebras https://api.cerebras.ai/v1

Set via RELACE_APPLY_ENDPOINT and corresponding API key.

Optional Base Directory

RELACE_BASE_DIR is now optional. The server will:

  1. Use MCP Roots if your IDE provides them
  2. Fall back to current working directory

Cloud Tools Opt-In

Cloud sync/search tools are now disabled by default.

To enable:

export RELACE_CLOUD_TOOLS=1

File Logging

Enable structured logging for debugging:

export RELACE_LOGGING=1

Log locations:

  • Linux: ~/.local/state/relace/relace.log
  • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/relace/relace.log
  • Windows: %LOCALAPPDATA%\relace\relace.log

Legacy Encoding Support

Auto-detects project encoding for legacy repos (GBK, Big5, Shift_JIS).

Override with:

export RELACE_DEFAULT_ENCODING=gbk

Security Fixes

  • Bash sandbox blocks dangerous commands (rg --pre, awk system(), sed e/w)
  • Path validation prevents tilde expansion and symlink traversal attacks
  • Default localhost binding reduces exposure

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed Python 3.11/3.12 compatibility issues
  • Improved Windows path handling
  • Better error messages on apply failures
