Release list
Pear 0.1.1
Pear 0.1.1
Fixes a first-install error in 0.1.0 that could stop setup with “This folder contains unrelated files.” Pear now establishes its local installation folder before creating run history and safely recognizes the history-only folder left by the affected version.
Apple Silicon · macOS 15+ · Rosetta required
Uses the unchanged Wine 11.0 and DXMT 0.80 runtime.
If setup stopped in 0.1.0
Quit Pear with Pear → Quit Pear (Command-Q), download this version and replace Pear in Applications. Open Pear again and choose Download and install. Keep ~/Library/Application Support/Pear Preview; do not delete your data to recover setup. Existing history and sharing preferences are preserved. Unknown files are still refused, and recovery waits if another Pear is using the history.
The affected first-install screen cannot reach the normal app-update flow, so use the DMG or Homebrew for this recovery. Already configured installations can use Update and launch. Quit Steam and games before installing an update.
Homebrew: brew update then brew upgrade --cask postmelee/tap/pear. New installations: brew install --cask postmelee/tap/pear. Recognized Homebrew-managed installations use Homebrew instead of Sparkle replacement.
Verification
The final Developer ID signed and Apple-notarized app completed installation and opened Steam in both an empty environment and a copy of the history-only environment that reproduced the 0.1.0 failure. The owner confirmed normal login text and QR display without signing in. History and sharing preferences were preserved. These checks ran on M4 Pro / macOS 26.5.2.
The exact signed app and CLI passed startup and signature checks on macOS 15.7.9 ARM64 CI; Steam UI and gameplay on macOS 15 remain unverified. Regression tests include active-observer refusal, unknown-file and link protection, and byte-preserving CLI recovery with real Swift history snapshots.
The runtime is unchanged. Earlier Megabonk gameplay and save/relaunch results retain their recorded scope; long gameplay is not repeated for this launcher fix. Compatibility is not guaranteed for every game or Mac.
Source and downloads
Use SHA256SUMS to verify downloads. The app ZIP is the Sparkle update archive; ordinary installation uses the DMG. The optional CLI has no automatic updater.
App/CLI source: pear-source-c582c93.tar.gz, commit c582c93fddaf31c5ef271d85f4c60081299e6bad, version 0.1.1/build 9. The unchanged runtime and corresponding source remain in the runtime release. Pear original source is GPL-3.0-or-later; third-party notices are retained.
Pear 0.1.0
Pear 0.1.0
Pear's first stable release makes Windows Steam setup, app updates and optional game reports available in one Mac app. Game compatibility still depends on the game and your Mac; this is not a claim that every game works.
Apple Silicon · macOS 15+ · Rosetta required
Includes the Pear app and optional CLI. First-run setup downloads Wine 11.0 and DXMT 0.80 separately, using the unchanged signed runtime.
Install or upgrade
Download Pear for Mac, open the DMG and drag Pear to Applications. Quit games, Steam and the old Pear app before replacing it. Existing Steam login, games, saves and sharing preferences are preserved; keep the Pear Preview folder in Application Support.
Homebrew: brew install --cask postmelee/tap/pear. Existing Homebrew users: brew update then brew upgrade --cask postmelee/tap/pear.
What is new
- App updates with Sparkle. Pear checks at launch and offers the installed and new versions with release notes. Choose Update and launch or Later. No update, a declined update, a failed check or a check timeout continues to Steam. Installation is deferred while Steam or games are active. Wine/DXMT keep their existing installation and validation path.
- Your choice of reporting. Keep records local, review after each game, or enable automatic sharing of selected observations. Nothing is sent until you confirm a sharing choice. The welcome screen preselects Automatic sharing and the four field groups; Continue without sharing keeps sharing off. Update choices do not grant report-sharing consent.
- Run history and optional details. Open Window → Run history to add a result, share, export or manage a record. Notes require explicit sharing and remain private. Reports enter private review before selected fields may appear in the catalog or on GitHub. Process time is not verified play time and never automatically becomes a Pass.
- Clearer setup and startup. Review required downloads, follow progress and cancel preparation. Settings are in Pear → Settings → Sharing; the Steam window detection shows when to continue in Steam.
Legacy preview apps do not contain Sparkle: install this release manually once, or update with Homebrew. Recognized Homebrew-managed installations defer in-app replacement; use Homebrew to update. Sparkle system profiling is disabled. Updates and recovery · Reporting and privacy.
Verification scope
App, CLI and DMG passed Developer ID signing and Apple notarization. The exact signed app/CLI passed macOS 15.7.9 ARM64 startup checks; Steam UI and gameplay on macOS 15 and exact macOS 15.0 execution remain unverified.
On M4 Pro / macOS 26.5.2, an updater-enabled signed build 6 updated to build 7 and reopened Steam once. Decline, active-session reuse, unavailable/offline update-check fallback, corrupt-archive rejection and pre-install cancellation were checked. Timeout and installer-error callbacks have fixture coverage; arbitrary filesystem or power-loss recovery is not claimed. Final stable-feed build 8 retained login/library, all 11 checked save files, history and sharing preferences.
The unchanged Wine/DXMT runtime retains earlier owner-confirmed Megabonk gameplay, audio, save/relaunch, recovery and same-Mac fresh-account installation evidence. Long gameplay was not repeated for these app changes. Automatic, manual and ask-after-game reporting were checked with the owner; public approval is separate from compatibility qualification. No all-game, performance or second-physical-Mac claim is made.
Downloads, source and licenses
Use SHA256SUMS to verify the attached downloads. The app ZIP is the Sparkle update archive; ordinary installation uses the DMG. The CLI is optional and has no automatic updater.
App/CLI source: pear-source-51fbe6f.tar.gz, commit 51fbe6f2dea42c82691d803ef02ae1663c087dd9, app version 0.1.0/build 8. The unchanged runtime and corresponding source kit remain in the runtime release. Pear original source is GPL-3.0-or-later; Sparkle and other third-party components retain their licenses and bundled notices.
Sparkle update qualification — not a stable release
Sparkle update qualification
This pre-release is for Pear's app-update validation only. It is not the first stable release and is not linked from the download page or Homebrew.
What is being tested
- Show the installed and available app versions, with release notes in Pear.
- Choose Update and launch or Later. Failed update checks must continue to Steam.
- Replace the signed build 6 baseline with signed build 7 and reopen Pear.
- Preserve installed games, saved progress and sharing preferences.
Both test apps use the same 0.1.0 marketing version; their build numbers distinguish the update. The baseline is updater-enabled test software. Legacy preview releases without Sparkle still require one manual installation.
Wine 11.0 and DXMT 0.80 continue to use Pear's existing installation and validation path. This app update does not replace the runtime. Sparkle system profiling is disabled and report-sharing consent remains separate.
Source: 08bfd10. Developer ID signing, Apple notarization and macOS 15 startup checks passed. Real update and recovery qualification is in progress; this release does not claim that those checks have passed.
Pear 0.1.0-preview.4 — macOS 15+
Pear Preview 0.1.0-preview.4 lowers the app and CLI minimum deployment target to macOS 15. Requires Apple Silicon and Rosetta.
Includes Wine 11.0 and DXMT 0.80, using the unchanged signed-v3 runtime. The app, CLI and DMG are signed with Developer ID and notarized by Apple.
Download and install
Download Pear-0.1.0-preview.4-macos-arm64.dmg, drag Pear to Applications, and open Pear. Quit games, Steam and the old Pear app before replacing it. Existing login, games and saves remain in ~/Library/Application Support/Pear Preview.
Or install the same Mac app with Homebrew:
brew install --cask postmelee/tap/pearQuit games, Steam and Pear before upgrading with brew upgrade --cask postmelee/tap/pear. brew uninstall --cask pear removes the app but preserves Steam, games and saves. The cask does not install the optional CLI into PATH. If Pear was installed manually, remove only the old app before switching to Homebrew; preserve its Application Support folder.
The optional CLI archive runs without Homebrew, Rust or Xcode. Runtime/Steam downloads occur on first setup after confirmation in the app. Internet access, a Steam account and owned games are required.
Verified scope
- Same final signed app/CLI: signature, notarization, CLI execution and isolated first-run process startup checked on macOS 15.7.9 arm64 and macOS 26.5.2.
- Unchanged runtime archive: exact SHA-256 checked; all Mach-O minimum versions are at or below 15.0; Wine 11.0 startup checked under Rosetta on macOS 15.7.9.
- Existing preview.3 gameplay, audio, save/relaunch and recovery evidence on M4 Pro/macOS 26.5.2 is retained for the unchanged runtime. These game tests were not repeated for this deployment-target-only app change.
- macOS 15 game/Steam UI compatibility and exact macOS 15.0 execution are not yet verified. CI process startup is not visual or gameplay qualification. Other games remain unverified.
Sources and checksums
Verify downloads with SHA256SUMS. App/CLI source: pear-source-d0cbbbc.tar.gz (commit d0cbbbc).
The unchanged runtime and its corresponding sources/notices remain in the runtime release. Pear original source is GPL-3.0-or-later; third-party terms remain intact.
Pear 0.1.0-preview.3
Pear 0.1.0-preview.3
The Mac app is now named Pear. This remains a Preview release.
Download and installation guide ·
Game catalog
Pear now shows progress while Steam opens and confirms when its window is detected. If opening takes longer, it offers a retry. Window detection does not confirm sign-in or library readiness.
This release uses Wine 11.0 and DXMT 0.80. Rosetta is required.
Requirements: Apple Silicon, macOS 26 or later, an internet connection and
space for Steam and your games.
Install or update
Download the DMG, open it and drag Pear to Applications. Close Steam and the
older Pear Preview app before updating. The new name keeps the same data folder,
so installed games, sign-in state and saves remain available. After installing
Pear, you can remove the old Pear Preview.app. Keep
~/Library/Application Support/Pear Preview.
On first setup, review the required download sizes and choose Download and
install. Sign in through official Windows Steam and choose an owned game.
The optional CLI remains pear-preview; its commands and data path are unchanged.
Scope
This is a public Preview release. Final fresh-account installation was confirmed
by the owner on October 15, 2026, with no reported problems. Preview.3 changes app presentation and packaging only. Its signed-v3
runtime is identical to preview.2, which passed requester-confirmed 20+ minutes
of Megabonk play, input/audio, saved progress after relaunch and normal exit on
an M4 Pro with 24 GB memory and macOS 26.5.2. That hardware is a tested
configuration, not a minimum memory requirement or an all-game guarantee.
The preview.3 app, CLI and DMG have passed Developer ID signing, Apple
notarization and local distribution checks. The final signed app also passed
existing-login library launch, prompt window-status transition and normal exit
on the tested Mac. Anonymous downloads of the app, CLI, DMG and corresponding
Pear source matched their published checksums. The owner completed the final public-download, fresh standard-user setup,
Steam/game launch and save/relaunch checklist on the same Mac without problems.
This is not an independent second-Mac test. Exact active duration and graphics
settings were not instrumented; 20+ minutes is the owner-confirmed lower bound.
Source
Pear original code is GPL-3.0-or-later; upstream components retain their terms.
Exact app/CLI source: e574ba17fa3e3b9b9598d5c6c376ce6f770d6ef8, provided in
pear-source-e574ba1.tar.gz. The unchanged runtime and matching corresponding
source kit remain available with preview.2.
Steam updates and games are downloaded separately; no accounts, games or saves
are included. Keep macOS security protections enabled.
Pear Preview 0.1.0-preview.2
Pear Preview 0.1.0-preview.2
Windows Steam on Mac, with a simple first-time setup.
This release uses Wine 11.0 and DXMT 0.80. Rosetta is required.
Requirements: Apple Silicon, macOS 26 or later, and an internet connection.
Steam updates and games need additional storage. Games must be owned on Steam.
Install
Download the DMG, open it, drag Pear Preview to Applications and launch it.
Review the download sizes and choose Download and install. Sign in through
the official Steam window, then choose a game from your library.
The optional CLI ZIP uses the same setup: run ./pear-preview, or
./pear-preview --help for additional commands. Homebrew installation is not
available yet.
What's new
- Download sizes, setup consent, progress, cancellation and retry.
- A fix for the Steam login-window close path.
- A verified upgrade from the previous Pear runtime, keeping the old Windows
environment as a recovery copy. Close Steam and games before upgrading. - Installed environments open Steam after verification; About Pear shows versions.
Pear downloads its runtime separately. Steam comes from Valve and updates
independently. Games, accounts, saves and Rosetta are not included.
Test scope
This is a qualification pre-release. Fresh-user installation verification for this exact candidate is still pending.
The public DMG, CLI and runtime downloads have passed anonymous HTTPS checksum
verification.
Megabonk passed requester-confirmed 20+ minutes of active play, keyboard/mouse
input and audio with the new runtime. The final signed app passed relaunch,
latest-progress preservation and normal exit on the migrated test environment.
The no-login Steam close path also passed with the new runtime.
The test Mac is an Apple M4 Pro with 24 GB memory and macOS 26.5.2. This is the
observed configuration, not a minimum memory requirement or a guarantee for every
game. Megabonk is the first validation target; other games remain unverified.
Pear's longer-term goal is Windows games on Mac without Rosetta. This Preview
still requires Rosetta.
Source and components
Pear original code is GPL-3.0-or-later. Upstream components retain their own terms.
Exact app/CLI source: 1d2a084288b6ab3f2faa1a71d1954cb94157d2dc, included as
pear-source-1d2a084.tar.gz.
The runtime uses the CodeWeavers 26.3.0 FOSS Wine sources with Pear's reviewed
patches, DXMT 0.80 and MoltenVK 1.4.2. The current reconstruction records
Xcode 26.6 / SDK 26.5 and GCC 16.2.0; its receipts describe these exact inputs.
pear-runtime-source-kit-v3.tar.gz provides the matching runtime sources,
patches, build/signing recipes and notices. Download it alongside
pear-runtime-signed-v3.tar.gz. SHA256SUMS covers all shipped binary and source
archives.
Keep macOS security protections enabled.
