Quick Start
This page gets you from zero to a single translated line in-game. Plan on about ten minutes.
- My Winter Car, installed normally.
- MSCLoader for My Winter Car, installed per its own instructions.
Important
If you previously used a BepInEx-based language pack (pre-v1.0.0), delete the entire BepInEx/ folder from your game directory before installing MSCLoader. The two cannot coexist cleanly.
Download the shipping template from the NexusMods page (it's the same archive end-users install — a Korean reference pack you'll edit into your own language). It contains:
Assets/
└── MWC_Localization_Core/
├── config.txt Language configuration
├── translate.txt Main UI translations
├── translate_magazine.txt classifiedss magazine
├── translate_teletext.txt TV teletext and chat
├── translate_msc.txt Optional: My Summer Car base
├── translate_mod.txt Optional: mod content
└── fonts.unity3d Optional: custom font bundle
MWC_Localization_Core.dll
Copy the archive contents into the game's Mods folder so the final layout is:
My Winter Car/

│ └── MWC_Localization_Core/
│ ├── config.txt
│ ├── translate.txt
│ ├── translate_magazine.txt

│ ├── translate_mod.txt
│ └── fonts.unity3d
└── MWC_Localization_Core.dll
The Assets/MWC_Localization_Core/ path is required — MSCLoader looks for assets there.
Open Mods/Assets/MWC_Localization_Core/config.txt and edit the two lines at the top:
LANGUAGE_NAME = Your Language
LANGUAGE_CODE = xx-XXUse the language's own name for LANGUAGE_NAME (e.g. Español, 日本語, Português) and the ISO code for LANGUAGE_CODE (e.g. es-ES, ja-JP, pt-BR). Everything else in config.txt can stay as-is for now — see Configuration for the full reference.
Open translate.txt. Find any line, for example:
BEER = 맥주
Replace the right-hand side with your language:
BEER = Cerveza
Save the file.
- Launch My Winter Car.
- Open MSCLoader's mod settings and confirm MWC Localization Core is enabled.
- Start or load a save.
- Find a beer (or whatever string you edited) — the new text should be on screen.
- Edit another line in
translate.txt, save, then press F8 in-world. The reload is instant, no restart needed.
If the text didn't change, see Testing & Debugging for the common causes.
- translate.txt — the main translation file, line-by-line format reference.
- translate_magazine.txt — classifieds magazine keyword pool and the price/phone line.
- translate_teletext.txt — TV teletext and chat (the file with section headers).
-
Optional Translation Files — re-use an MSC translation as a base, or split mod lines into
translate_mod.txt. -
Translation Patterns — what to do with
{0}/{1}placeholders. - Text Adjustments — when translated text overflows or is misaligned.
- Creating font assetbundle — if your language needs glyphs the default font lacks.
