optional translation files
Two more translation files ship with the template, both optional. Both use the exact same format as translate.txt (one KEY = value per line, # comments, \n for newlines, key normalized to uppercase).
My Winter Car shares thousands of UI strings with its predecessor, My Summer Car. If you (or someone in the MSC localization community) already have an MSC translation file, you can drop it in as translate_msc.txt and get most of MWC translated for free, then only touch translate.txt for the strings that are new or changed.

If you don't have an MSC translation, delete this file — the plugin treats it as optional and won't complain.
translate_mod.txt is a parallel slot for strings that come from other MSCLoader mods (not from the base game). It exists purely to keep translate.txt focused on vanilla content. Functionally it works exactly the same as translate.txt.
If you're not translating any mods, leave the file empty or delete it.
The plugin loads these files in a fixed order and merges them into one global dictionary. Later files win if the same key appears in more than one:
1. translate_msc.txt (your MSC base, if any)
2. translate.txt (main MWC translations)
3. translate_mod.txt (mod-specific lines)
4. translate_magazine.txt (magazine keywords)
translate_teletext.txt is loaded into a separate dictionary that the teletext FSM hook reads first, then falls back to the global dictionary above. See translate_teletext.txt.
What this means in practice:
-
translate.txtoverrides anything intranslate_msc.txt. Usetranslate.txtfor MWC-specific wording or to fix anything in the MSC file that doesn't read right in winter. -
translate_mod.txtoverrides both. If a mod uses a generic string likeOPENthat you've already translated intranslate.txt, you don't need to repeat it — but you can override it intranslate_mod.txtif the mod uses it in a context that needs different wording.
Save the file and press F8 in-world. See Testing & Debugging.
