ZoomArc 0.12.1
Transparent-export fixes. If you export with a transparent background, update to this version.
Fixed
- Transparent export formats appeared not to work. The formats labelled "(transparent)" — MOV · ProRes 4444, MKV · FFV1 and PNG sequence — only keep transparency that the background already has; picking one didn't make the background transparent. With the default gradient (or a colour or image background) still behind the recording, the export came out solid, so the transparent option looked broken.
- Choosing a transparent format while the background is solid now shows "Background isn't transparent" in the editor header with a one-click Make transparent button (keeps the chosen format).
- Verified with real exports through the app: MOV (ProRes 4444 XQ,
yuva444p12le), MKV (FFV1,bgra) and PNG sequence all carry a true alpha channel — areas outside the recording and its shadow are fully transparent.
- Transparent background exported as solid black. Setting Background → Transparent while the export format was MP4 (the default) silently flattened the background to black, with only a small header warning.
- Turning the background transparent now switches the export to MOV · ProRes 4444 automatically.
- Exporting a transparent background as MP4 or regular WebM now asks for confirmation first, explaining that the background will be black and which formats keep transparency.
- Couldn't tell what would be transparent. The editor preview showed transparent areas as dark grey. It now shows a checkerboard behind transparent areas (preview only — not exported).
- Outdated note in the Background panel claiming WebM can't be transparent.
Added
- WebM · VP9 (transparent) export format — VP9 with a real alpha channel (
alpha_mode=1). Plays with transparency in Chrome, Edge, OBS, web pages and most editors, making it the easiest transparent format to preview. Quality presets apply.
Notes
- Windows' built-in video players often display a MOV's transparent areas as black even though the file is transparent. Check MOV exports in DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro, After Effects or OBS — or export WebM (transparent) and open it in Chrome.
- In Frame mode the recording grows to fill the whole canvas while zoomed, so there's no transparent margin during zooms (by design). Use Video mode to keep the transparent margin throughout.
