Universe RP version 3.8.8

New features

  • TaystJK engine: Universe RP now runs natively on TaystJK. Use provided script files to launch the game and the server properly!
  • Platforms: builds for Windows, Linux (including arm64) and macOS (including Apple Silicon).
  • HD and widescreen HUD: upscaled HUD icons, crosshairs and zoom views; the HUD, radar and crosshair keep their shape on wide screens.
  • Hats and capes:
    • for players with /cosmetics, saved per character;
    • for NPCs with spawner keys or from the Extras menu.
  • Ledge grab: jump or fall next to a ledge to grab it, then pull up, let go or move along it.
  • Emotes and animations:
    • /emote plays full emotes with their own endings (/emote list);
    • /wehug and /wekiss with the player in your crosshair;
    • /anim plays single animations by number or name, with many new names and 22 animations from JA+.
  • Extras menus:
    • browse and spawn MD3 and GLM props, effects, NPCs and vehicles, play music and sounds;
    • place lights and NPC/vehicle spawners on the surface you aim at.
  • Entity System:
    • copy, cut, rotate and place by aim;
    • view entity bounds;
    • fire any entity by its name or by aiming at it, use /enthelp to read about any entity class;
    • doors, buttons and triggers can be locked to chosen accounts;
    • a separate pool for logical entities, so they no longer use up the regular entity limit.
  • NPC and vehicle spawners:
    • spawnnow, respawn, npcteam, npceffect, npcfreeze, npchat and npccape extra keys;
    • optional XP and credit rewards for NPC kills;
    • NPC and vehicle size with npcscale (20–500%).
  • Custom RGB saber colours and blade designs:
    • new in-game saber menu: pick your hilts, a preset colour or any colour with RGB sliders, and a blade design;
    • /sabercolor sets an RGB value or a preset colour, /saberblade picks a blade design (classic, flame or electric);
    • saved per character;
    • NPC files can give sabers a custom colour and blade design.
  • New chat box design:
    • Supports longer messages and all chat types;
    • All text is visible on screen without moving the cursor. Mouse can be used to select text or place the cursor to make edits.
  • Combat and movement:
    • grappling hook (a skill);
    • melee head lock (strafe + Attack + Alt Attack);
    • melee spin kicks (forward + strafe + Alt Attack);
    • flip kicks off players and NPCs, now reliable: double jump into them, or strafe-jump beside them;
    • Force Drain grab at Drain 4–5: drain an opponent right in front of you by the throat;
    • Force duels (/engage_fullforceduel);
    • sabers worn on the thigh or wrists when holstered;
    • new Tavion and Desann saber stances;
    • Usable hint icon;

  • Admin tools:
    • change weather or map with /admweather and /admmap;
    • walk-through and fully hidden effects for yourself or other players (/admwalkthrough, /admhidden);
    • New NPC management commands: /npc killaim, /npc effect and /npc freeze;
    • /upgradereset to reset a player's permanent shop upgrades.
  • Player commands:
    • /ooc chat;
    • quoted text in RP chat modifiers (/me, /do and the rest) shows in green;
    • turn yourself into a hologram or Force ghost with /holo and /ghost;
    • /allyaim adds or removes the player you aim at as an ally;
    • AFK protection: go AFK with /away, or automatically after a while without input;
    • dice notation such as /roll 2d6, plus /rollall and /flipcoinall;

    • /list commands rewritten.
  • Single-player maps: better support, including Jedi Outcast maps, and the new entity classes such as misc_model_ghoul and more.

Gameplay changes

  • /emote and /anim: single animations by number or name moved to /anim; /emote now plays full emotes.
  • Private duels: saber duels restrict the Force again, as in the base game. Use Force duel instead.
  • Cloak item is back to its original design. Use /admhidden to fully hide yourself instead.
  • Cloak skill now has 2 levels with 2nd level allowing cloaking vehicles (by /vehicle_cloak). Both players and vehicles decloak upon taking damage or attacking.
  • Stun Baton skill now has a 5th level which allows to trigger entities (open doors and trigger other movers).
  • Force powers:
    • rebalanced at levels 4 and 5;
    • the Force pool is capped at 250;
    • the blue Force hint now shows with any weapon out.
  • Downed system: reworked with proper timers, and no Force or items while downed. It can be disabled now if needed.
  • Minigames: Duel Tournament and Melee Battle improved and rebalanced.
  • The three permanent shop upgrades are now saved properly per character. They are tuned down from what they used to be.

Main fixes

  • Accounts and characters: progress now saves reliably on map change, disconnect and character switch. This covers credits, XP, skills, saber setup, settings and ammo.
  • Server stability: fixed crashes and shutdowns from malformed entities, sound spam, running out of entity slots and database lock errors.
  • Cross-client play: players on other clients are no longer kicked ("Bad animation number") by the mod's custom animations.
  • Tons of bugfixes, such as:
    • no more T-pose with no weapon after an ill-timed weapon switch;
    • severed limbs match the size of a scaled player or NPC;
    • vehicle droids roll with their vehicle;
    • melee grapples hit health directly and knock down reliably.

Security

  • SQL injection fixes across the account system.
  • Buffer overflow fixes.
  • Duplicate-username and double-login protection.

Installation

  • Clients:

    • Delete OpenJK executables and install TaystJK ones. Alternatively you can create a separate game directory for TaystJK.
    • Extract the Client package into your game folder.
    • Launch the game with the provided script.
  • Servers:

    • Delete OpenJK executables and install TaystJK ones. Alternatively you can create a separate game directory for TaystJK.
    • Extract the Full package into your game folder.
    • Open fresh server config file and customize your server settings, update its name and change rcon password. DO NOT use old version's server config files!
    • You can copy your old presets and database (from GalaxyRP) into the UniverseRP folder if you have them.
    • Launch the server with one of the provided scripts.
    • If using a fresh database: connect to your own server, log into the default Admin account and change its password (or use DB browser for that).
