v8.0.0-rc.17-dev.1

@wmadden-electric wmadden-electric tagged this 08 Oct 12:38
`8.0.0-rc.16` → `8.0.0-rc.17`

```diff
-  "version": "8.0.0-rc.16",
+  "version": "8.0.0-rc.17",
```

**Merging this PR ships the release.** The push to `main` carries the
new root `version`, the `Publish to npm` workflow publishes
`8.0.0-rc.17` under the `latest` dist-tag, and a GitHub Release, marked
pre-release, is created from the notes below. See
[`docs/oss/versioning.md`](https://github.com/prisma/orm/blob/main/docs/oss/versioning.md).

## What to review

1. **The release notes**,
[`docs/releases/v8.0.0-rc.17.md`](https://github.com/prisma/orm/blob/release/8.0.0-rc.17/docs/releases/v8.0.0-rc.17.md).
This file is the GitHub Release body, word for word. It covers the
twelve PRs merged since `v8.0.0-rc.16`, minus two with no user-facing
change: [#30536](https://github.com/prisma/orm/pull/30536) (a project
plan) and [#30643](https://github.com/prisma/orm/pull/30643) (deletes a
finished project folder).

2. **The two upgrade guides** under
`skills/prisma-8/upgrading/{app,extension}/upgrades/8.0.0-rc.16-to-8.0.0-rc.17/`.
Each is the ten (app) or eight (extension) upgrade notes the feature PRs
left in `upgrade-instructions/pending/`, joined in this order: enum
values, Prisma 7 constraint names, foreign-key backing indexes, MongoDB
index `sort()` syntax (app only), migration renames, migration consent,
`apply` → `with`, `scope` → `fragment`, row locking. The originals move
unchanged to
`upgrade-instructions/releases/8.0.0-rc.16-to-8.0.0-rc.17/sources/`.

Some notes were written before a later PR changed the same thing, so
joining them as written would contradict itself. These sentences were
changed:

- `non-data-drops-are-widening` said `--confirm` was still needed for
dropping a table or column. The later consent PR made `--confirm`
consent to nothing, so the entry now points at the replacement flags.
- Two enum entries said dropping a CHECK constraint needs consent. That
became a `widening` operation in the renames PR, so they now say the
plan asks nothing about it.
- The `apply` → `with` section used the word "scope" and quoted error
texts that the `fragment` PR changed again. It now says "fragment" and
points at the final error texts.
- In the extension guide, `plannerSuccess` gained an argument in each of
two PRs. The `sql-planner-helpers` entry now gives the final
four-argument call.

The app guide also gets the usual `contract-artifacts-restamp` entry for
the Supabase extension's version stamp.

3. **One test path.**
`test/integration/test/upgrade-instructions/migration-statement-refusal/detection.test.ts`
read its detection patterns from the pending note. It now reads them
from the published app guide, and passes.

The rest is the version bump: every `package.json`, `workspace:`
specifiers in `pnpm-lock.yaml`, the `library_version` stamp in
`skills/prisma-8/SKILL.md`, and the Supabase contract fixtures that
embed the extension's version.

## Docs site

[prisma/web#8417](https://github.com/prisma/web/pull/8417) updates the
docs pages for this release. Merge it after this release is on npm.

## Checks run locally

- `pnpm check:upgrade-coverage --mode publish --prev v8.0.0-rc.16 --head
HEAD` passes.
- `node scripts/check-release-notes.mjs` passes in `pr` and `publish`
mode.
