AI Prompt Firewall is a full-stack security scanner for uploaded PDFs, text files, and documents. It extracts readable text, detects hidden prompt injection instructions, calculates a risk score, and highlights suspicious lines for review.

Backend (quick start):
Use a Python virtual environment and install core backend dependencies. The backend will try port 5000 first and automatically fall back to a free port between 5000–5100 if 5000 is busy.

Both surfaces scan content against the same backend endpoint. Start the backend first, then open the browser popup or the VS Code command palette.

To publish for everyone, you still need to upload the generated .vsix to the VS Code Marketplace and the browser zip to Chrome Web Store or Edge Add-ons with your own publisher/developer accounts.

}When you want the context-aware flow, send mode=dual_intent with the upload request. The backend then includes intent, intent_confidence, conversation_risk, persona, utility, and a context-aware explanation in the response.
The latest UI flow also includes a review step. When the scan finds risky prompt content or encoded payloads, the response includes review_required, review_summary, review_actions, and a review_token so the frontend can ask for approval before revealing the sanitized preview.
The approval endpoint is POST /api/scan/review/approve and accepts the review_token from the scan response.

Rules live in backend/app/utils/patterns.py, so you can add more patterns without changing the route or frontend.
The OCR service is optional and only runs when a PDF has no extractable text. Install Tesseract on your machine, then make sure the tesseract command is available on your PATH.
