SEARCH-IN 2.1.0.105

Drag Selected Files

Select one or multiple results in Files or In-File, then drag into File Explorer or another app that accepts Windows file drops. The selection refers to the original files, not preview text or Match snippets.

  • Hold Ctrl to request Copy, Shift to request Move, or Alt for a shortcut where the destination supports it. Press Esc to cancel.
  • Selections can span result pages. Up to 10,000 files or folders can be prepared for one drag.
  • Missing or inaccessible items stop preparation instead of silently transferring only part of the selection.
  • Run the desktop app normally, not as administrator, when dragging to ordinary Explorer or browser windows. The engine service can keep its existing permissions.
  • A destination app must support file drops; not every app or text field accepts files.

Faster Sorting

Path and Ext sorting are optimized for large catalogs. Size and Modified now share cached metadata, reducing repeated filesystem reads when switching between those columns. Live file changes refresh the affected results.

The first Size/Modified sort across millions of files can still take time. Large result sets remain paged while you scroll.

Installation And Updates

Use Setup to update both SEARCH-IN and its included engine. Existing SEARCH-IN settings, encrypted API keys, bookmarks, and indexes retain their current locations. No index-format migration is required.

Published builds with update checking enabled show the quiet New update download indicator. Click it to review the update, download inside the app, verify SHA-256, and choose when to run Setup. Earlier local builds with updates disabled need one manual installation.

LOCALOCR 1.x stays separate and keeps its compatible update feed. Application source remains private.

Requirements: Windows 10/11 x64, .NET 10 Desktop Runtime (x64), and Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime. Packages are unsigned; verify the release source and SHA-256 before installing.

Automated checks passed for the engine, header sorting, native file-drop data, controlled copy/move and cancellation, 4,370,750-row scrolling, previews/runtime fallback, and credential persistence/key rotation. No real provider request or personal-file transfer was used for these tests.

Result Sorting Fixes

  • The sort arrow now updates with the actual result order, not before it is ready.
  • Changing the sort shows its first result page while retaining virtual scrolling for the complete result set.
  • Path sorting follows the displayed directory. Ext sorting treats folders as having no extension.
  • Modified sorting retains full timestamp precision. Size and Modified result pages keep their sorting values consistent.
  • Reversing the current sort reuses the existing ordered result snapshot when the catalog has not changed.
  • A failed search or sort keeps the previous results and paging available, with a visible error message.

The first Size or Modified sort on a large catalog can still take longer because filesystem metadata must be read. This is not a claim of instant metadata sorting across millions of files.

Updating

SEARCH-IN 2.1.0.103 and later can detect this release through the quiet New update download indicator. Click it to review the update, download inside the app, verify the package, and choose when to run Setup. Nothing installs automatically.

Earlier local builds, including 2.1.0.102, disabled online update checks. They need a one-time manual installation of a build with updates enabled. To test the update indicator specifically, install 2.1.0.103 and reopen it to detect 2.1.0.104.

Setup updates both SEARCH-IN and its included engine. Existing configuration, encrypted API keys, bookmarks, and content indexes keep their current locations. LOCALOCR 1.x remains separate and its compatible update feed is unchanged.

Requires Windows 10/11 x64, Microsoft .NET 10 Desktop Runtime, and Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime. Packages are unsigned; verify their origin and SHA-256 before installing. Application source and personal data are not included.

SEARCH-IN 2.1.0.103

First public SEARCH-IN release in the existing promptedteam/LOCALOCR distribution repository.

  • Enables the SEARCH-IN HTTPS update channel, with a release-hosted manifest and a default-branch fallback.
  • Keeps the legacy LOCALOCR 1.x update channel separate rather than implying an untested in-place product migration.
  • Retains Word/RTF preview corrections, WebView2 prerequisite detection, responsive paged results, persistent encrypted API settings, multi-key rotation, and automatic rate-limit waiting.
  • Adds four one-minute tutorials with a two-column desktop gallery and a two-by-two README tutorial section.
  • Retains release/download/Windows/x64 badges, direct package links, release notes, and the live GitHub star badge.

Earlier local SEARCH-IN builds intentionally disabled online update checks. Install this Setup once to enable future in-app updates. Existing SEARCH-IN configuration, encrypted keys, bookmarks, and indexes keep their current locations. LOCALOCR 1.x remains installed separately; its settings and indexes are not deleted or silently converted.

The installer requires .NET 10 Desktop Runtime (x64) and Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime. It can obtain missing prerequisites from Microsoft with internet access. For offline PCs, bring the official standalone prerequisite installers first. Word layout remains approximate; some media and specialist formats depend on codecs or supported subsets.

LOCALOCR 1.5.3.100

This update makes engine recovery and update delivery more reliable without adding background prompts.

What changed

  • Restarts the LOCALOCR Engine automatically after unexpected termination using Windows Service Control Manager recovery actions.
  • Requests administrator approval only when Windows cannot recover the installed engine service itself.
  • Waits for the engine connection before reporting startup success.
  • Checks for updates quietly and shows a compact New update control instead of opening a popup.
  • Opens update details and the verified in-app downloader only after the user clicks New update.
  • Uses a release-hosted update manifest with the existing raw GitHub manifest retained as a compatibility fallback.
  • Replaces the write-enabled star-history automation with a live, read-only GitHub star badge.

The installer and portable package both include the statically linked native runtime; no separate Visual C++ redistributable is required.
