Introducing the ProRDP Public Beta

ProRDP is a native RDP server for macOS. You can connect to your Mac from Windows Remote Desktop (mstsc.exe), Microsoft Remote Desktop, or FreeRDP and use it as if you were sitting in front of it.

It works with stock Windows Remote Desktop using its default settings, so you don't need to edit any .rdp files. Sign-in goes through NLA, and keyboard, mouse and audio work over the session.

Highlights

• Native resolution: each session gets a virtual display at the client's exact resolution, so nothing is scaled. Resize the client window and the remote desktop resizes with it.
• Multi-monitor: turn on Use all my monitors and each client screen gets its own macOS display, with its own menu bar and Spaces.
• Hardware encoding: H.264 over the graphics pipeline, encoded on the Apple media engine. On an M4, 1080p runs at about 30 fps and a 4K frame takes about 0.7 of a CPU core.
• Audio and clipboard: Mac audio plays on the client. Text, files and folders can be copied in both directions.
• Two ways to sign in: a ProRDP-only password, or your macOS account. Secrets are kept in the keychain.
• Certificates: a self-signed certificate is created automatically and works with Apple's TLS rules. You can also use one from your keychain or one issued by a CA.
• Menu bar app: a status icon, one Settings window, live performance graphs and launch at login.

Requirements

• macOS 15 or later
• The Screen Recording and Accessibility permissions. ProRDP asks for them the first time you start the server.

Install

Download the .dmg below and drag ProRDP to Applications. The app is signed and notarized.

This is a beta, so please open an issue for bugs or connection problems. For performance problems, include the output of Copy Performance Report from the menu bar.
