- Integrating elevator realtime data for DE and CH
- Citybikes <-> Transitous integration
- Meta-stations, https://github.com/public-transport/transitous/pull/1976
- Schedule data augmentation from Wikidata
- Parsing Transitous data archive / building a py-nigiri module
- Publishing the Transitous archive somehow
- Planning a Bahn-Vorhersage - like delay / transfer prediction for Transitous
- route shape extraction from MOTIS, released under OSM ODbL (?) alongside GTFS/NeTEx
- Continuous Realtime https://github.com/public-transport/transitous/issues/1540#issuecomment-3637402734
- Benefiting more from (and giving back more to) MDB https://github.com/public-transport/transitous/issues/2435
- Funding / Usage Policy -> ask client apps to add a donation link for their users to setup a recurring payment to continuously fund Transitous infra
- Add FR pronounciation: https://ipa-reader.com/?text=t%CA%81%C9%91̃zitu&voice=Mathieu (Transit tous = transit (for) all)
- GTFS extension proposals (reservation required, display rules)
- first-level data error support/guide end users (or: what Transitous is not)
- categorical client app list
- usage policy: oss/thin wrapper/commercial/allow non-profit orgs? (maybe more a session topic)
- more automated QA: compare with OSM (coverage, stations, detect broken transfers), make Timetable+GBFS dashboards more actionable?
- enable Mapterhorn mirror
- prepare import pipeline to run 4x a day (or actually run it 4x a day?)
- Integrate the Italian (real-time) feeds
Sessions during the unconference part:
- RAPTOR/ULTRA/Algos
- RT collection
- GTFS Extensions
- Italy
- Border Controls
- Ticketing
- EU complaints
- Add examples in the hope that not everyone will need to ask in the chat
- Add section on analytical queries that don't need to be real-time.
- We also lack a higher-level documentation/manual on which API endpoints to use for which use-case, and the cost trade-offs and possible alternatives for this
- Encourage adding a donation link (first we need this sorted out on our own website though)
List of possible solutions
- TIB might do it: https://www.tib.eu/de/publizieren-archivieren/beratung-und-information/forschungsdatenmanagement
- or: https://www.tu-darmstadt.de/tudata/dienste/tudatalib_tudata/index.de.jsp
- AWS open data sponsorship program: https://aws.amazon.com/opendata/open-data-sponsorship-program/
- Hugging face (unclear retention policy)
- Ask Zenodo for more space
- Ask Cloudflare for sponsored space
- find funding for around 10000€ for self-hosting at a university rack
- Random people's homeservers
- Run it from the TU Darmstadt for some time
- Talk to Digipres people
- if none of the above work out, talking to Jochen (https://jochenklar.de/) might give a lead?
Requirements:
- growth of ~2TB/year forever; growth will increase as more realtime feeds are released/integrated. rough guess: 500GB/yr/rt country
- egress: a few downloads a week
- continuous release?
- (issues have been opened here: https://github.com/MobilityData/mobility-database-catalogs/issues/1721 & https://github.com/MobilityData/mobility-feed-api/issues?q=is%3Aissue+author%3Ajbruechert)
- SPDX-identifier missing in CSV spreadsheet
- can't "fork" database as it is a collection of feeds from multiple other databases
- Transitland -> Mobility Database mapping table seems to be incorrect
- We need tooling to remove duplicates based on MOTIS merge stats
- we keep all separate mdb entries in our config (to have a better overview over what we have, to have less id change issues)
- we create a CI job that automatically creates a PR with mdb updates
- https://github.com/public-transport/transitous/pull/1976 - manually maintained meta stations, using MOTIS' stop group extension
- meta stations are mode-dependent: central station, bus station, airports
- where is the threshold: French TGV stations outside of the city?
- we need a way to properly define the expected results: collect those, try to derive rules from that
- DUS airport station: a valid destination when flying into Düsseldorf, but not the desired result for ICE arrivals
- Köln Messe Deutz: a valid destination for ICE trains bypassing Köln Hbf, but not for (regional) rail continuing to Köln Hbf
- Lauf (rechts/links der Pegnitz): two equivalent stations in a small town
- Berlin Ostkreuz: valid destination for trains bypassing Berlin Hbf, but not for anything continuing to Hbf
- München Ost: similar, has both bypassing and continuing to Hbf lines
- Limburg Süd: unclear whether that's a valid destination for Limburg
- define primary stations as preferred destination, allow secondary stations as viable end if they would need a transfer to the primary
- OSM airport tag: city_served: as alias as meta station for flights (or not as good: closest town)
- route to city center point (OSM city node), and in post-processing cut off at the first transfer inside the city boundary
- we need to get sufficient level of detail admin boundary info for this from MOTIS
- might fail for some external airports, but that's probably acceptable (protects against scam airports)
- photon can return admin boundaries, which would help for this
- counter-example: Dresden -> Berlin: ICE exit already at Südkreuz or Neustadt as that's closer to the center node
- client-side post-processing wont be able to fix this, but server-side we could extend the last line after cutting off to a stop closer to the city center node
- Felix also has an alternative penalty based approach in mind
- Transitous is now also listed on the opentransportdata.swiss showcase site: https://data.opentransportdata.swiss/showcase/transitous
- We'll meet at https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Berlin_Hack_Weekend_Oktober_2026 with Wikidata to discuss how to best collaborate on data augmentation (make sure to sign up for this!)
