Summary

Pre-release for testing. v20260730-dev of the compactflash driver and supporting tools for Amiga 600/1200.

What is new

This pre-release marks a new major version, compactflash.device 2.0. It adds DOS-time automount for hotplugged cards (on by default, configurable via ENV:cfd.prefs), with boot and automount bringup split into a new compactflash.automount module. Partition scanning moves onto the new standalone ptable.library, a single scanner shared with fat95 that publishes partition.resource; the new lsptres tool lists it.

Components in this release

  • compactflash.device 2.0-dev (30.07.2026) (new)
  • compactflash.automount 2.0-dev (30.07.2026) (new)
  • ptable.library 2.0-dev (30.07.2026) (new)
  • CFInfo 1.37 (11.01.2026)
  • pcmciaspeed 1.36 (02.01.2026)
  • pcmciacheck 1.39 (22.05.2026)
  • lsptres 1.0-dev (30.07.2026) (new)

Changes

CompactFlash Driver

  • Automount. Hotplugged cards mount automatically at DOS time, on by default; disable with AUTOMOUNT 0 in the new ENV:cfd.prefs config file. Removing a card fully unmounts all supported filesystems by default (UNMOUNT <names> restricts it, UNMOUNT NONE keeps the handlers). Boot and automount bringup is split into a separate compactflash.automount module.

Write these to ENVARC:cfd.prefs so they persist across reboots. Edit ENV:cfd.prefs directly for an immediate change without rebooting. A sample ENVARC/cfd.prefs ships in the archive.

Example ENV:cfd.prefs for hot-plugged FAT cards:

AUTOMOUNT 1
UNMOUNT FAT
CONTROL_FAT +q

Keeps automount on, fully unmounts only FAT volumes when a card is pulled (FFS/SFS/PFS keep their handler for instant reattach), and passes fat95's quiet +q option to FAT mounts.

To keep the pre-2.0 behaviour instead (no automount, handlers kept across removal):

AUTOMOUNT 0
UNMOUNT NONE

Disables automount, so partitions mount only via your own DEVS:DOSDrivers/ entries as before, and keeps every filesystem handler on card removal (the native AmigaOS removable-media behaviour) rather than fully unmounting.

On-disk automount via LoadModule (AmigaOS 3.x), added to your user-startup:

LoadModule LIBS:compactflash.automount LIBS:ptable.library DEVS:compactflash.device L:fat95

Makes the modules resident and reboots, so hotplug and automount work from disk without a custom ROM. Cold-boot autoboot straight off a CF card still needs the modules in a Kickstart ROM. See automount.md for the full configuration and deployment reference.

Partition Table library

  • Unified partition scanning. One scanner parses RDB, MBR, GPT, and flat (whole-disk) partition tables and publishes every partition into a shared partition.resource, now used by both compactflash.device and fat95 instead of each carrying its own. The new lsptres tool lists the resource.
  • ptable.library and lsptres are bundled in this archive but released as a separate project at amigaos-ptable.
