馃殌 Release Announcement: First Iteration of the New Project Request Wizard

We're excited to share the first iteration of the New Project Request Wizard, now available internally to the TigerData Backend Team. This release introduces critical interoperability between the TigerData Web Portal and Mediaflux, laying the groundwork for a faster, more reliable project setup process.

Who is this for?

The users for this release are the TigerData Backend Team; they will use the first iteration of the New Project Request Wizard to respond to researchers requests for new projects rapidly and reliably
Additionally, while most TigerData users will not be using this iteration of the Wizard themselves, those who request new projects will benefit from a shorter amount of time between making a request for a project and having access to the project in our software and storage services, thus allowing them to ramp up their work more quickly.

What鈥檚 New?

Faster Setup

  • New projects requested through the New Project Request Wizard are now created simultaneously in both the Web Portal and Mediaflux through a lightweight project approval workflow available only to TigerData Backend Admins
  • DOIs are automatically minted as part of the project creation workflow by the TigerData app

Better Validation & Reliability

  • Admin users can query Mediaflux through the Web Portal for the XML representation of projects, thus allowing efficient review and validation
  • An enormous amount of work across teams enables us to confirm version and configuration parity between Mediaflux environments and their compatibility with the Web Portal; much of this work is now part of our automation pipeline, leaving less up to chance, and allowing us to deployment software changes with more confidence across environments
  • Deployment and permissions testing is more streamlined and dependable

Why It鈥檚 Exciting

Previously, setting up a new project required time-consuming manual steps that relied on individuals in the TigerData Backend team to personally execute with hands-on labor before researchers could access their projects. This release automates much of that process, making it easier and faster for TigerData Backend Admins to spin up projects with confidence.

While the changes are currently only visible to the Backend Team, this marks an important step toward a smoother, more efficient, and more user-friendly experience for all requestors in the future.

Stay tuned, as the next iterations of our work bring the New Project Request Wizard to early adopters beyond the Backend Team.
