1.2.1 — auto-refresh when re-enabling a site
Enable and refresh page
Re-enabling Backspace navigation from the toolbar popup now saves the site setting and automatically refreshes that same tab once. You no longer need to refresh it manually before using Backspace.
Save unsaved work before clicking Enable and refresh page. Disabling does not reload. A controlling parent-domain exclusion is never silently removed; options removals update existing injected pages without forced reload. Failed saves do not reload; failed reloads leave the saved setting enabled and show manual-refresh guidance.
No new permissions, background worker or runtime dependencies.
Verification
- 49 unit tests passed.
- Headed Chromium passed against source and the extracted 13-file runtime-only ZIP, including real Chrome Sync and tabs.reload, captured target, single refresh, unchanged other tab, retained history and Backspace after refresh.
- Hosted Windows source and extracted-ZIP tests, plus Ubuntu/Windows unit tests: https://github.com/pupontech/chrome-backspace-back/actions/runs/36897681123
- Native toolbar/activeTab consent and your actual editors still require owner testing. The automated popup-flow test fixtures only tab selection; storage, reload and navigation are real.
Install for testing
Extract the ZIP, open chrome://extensions, enable Developer mode and choose Load unpacked (or replace your existing unpacked folder and click its reload button). Select the folder containing manifest.json. Disable the original extension to avoid duplicate key handlers. Reload already-open tabs after installing/updating; then test disabling and Enable and refresh page from the toolbar.
1.2.0 — site exclusions testing prototype
Backspace to Go Back 1.2.0 — testing prototype
Maintained fork of oslego/chrome-backspace-back; upstream history and attribution preserved.
- Backspace back / Shift+Backspace forward, with safer editing/composition/modifier/repeat handling.
- One-click site exclusions, parent-aware toolbar state, options management and Chrome Sync storage.
- Boundary-aware domain/subdomain matching; no service worker, frameworks, telemetry or runtime network requests.
- Runtime-only ZIP: extract it, open chrome://extensions, enable Developer mode, Load unpacked and select the folder containing manifest.json. Disable the original extension and reload existing tabs.
Verified: final master 8b9c8580a8d8516664f7d4c9c8fd594574e6136b passed all hosted gates: https://github.com/pupontech/chrome-backspace-back/actions/runs/36894424083 . 44 Node tests; genuine headed Chromium tests against both source and extracted ZIP, including text editing/open+closed shadows, live exclusions, same/cross-origin frames and restart persistence. Ubuntu/Windows unit jobs and Windows source+ZIP browser harness also passed on the final feature head: https://github.com/pupontech/chrome-backspace-back/actions/runs/36894092154 . Independent Luna review and targeted regression/fix re-review passed.
This is a prototype for owner testing, not a claim that every manual Chrome acceptance item is complete. Still untested: native toolbar user-gesture/activeTab grant in the owner's stable Chrome profile, physical IME/held keys, named third-party editor implementations, cross-device Chrome Sync, Edge and Brave. Popup/controller states have unit coverage; automated browser proof opens the popup document as an extension tab, not a native toolbar click.
Licensing: upstream has no explicit LICENSE, package license field or source license header and GitHub detects no license. No license was invented. Original code/icon rights and attribution remain with their holders; see README. No Chrome Web Store submission.
