@strombergdev strombergdev released this 11 Oct 18:54

Pixelview Desktop 0.0.12

Twelfth release, and the first for Windows (x64, Windows 10 22H2 or 11).

  • First Windows version: pair with a node, capture (including DeckLink and the built-in test patterns) and send to Pixelview, with automatic updates as on the Mac. Receiving is not available on Windows yet.
  • 4:4:4 10-bit (on the Mac): send, receive and play out 4:4:4 10-bit from RGB SDI sources with no chroma subsampling.
  • HDR sending: the node's colour profile in Pixelview admin now decides whether Pixelview Desktop sends SDR or HDR (PQ or HLG, including P3-D65).
  • Connection stats: while streaming, Pixelview Desktop reports its connection quality and how busy the computer is, and Pixelview admin shows it for each Desktop.
  • Fixed a crash at launch on computers with other OBS plugins installed: Pixelview Desktop now loads only its own plugins.

Pixelview Desktop is a modified distribution based on OBS Studio development snapshot 32.2.1-66-g6b3e55072 (commit 6b3e550729f125b6c5b3767df88c08f5aef9d264). It is not an official OBS Project release.

Pixelview Desktop 0.0.11

Eleventh Apple Silicon release.

  • Test patterns: you can test a stream without a capture card. The Capture list now also offers built-in test patterns (SMPTE bars, EBU and 100 % bars, gray ramps and steps, RGB ramps, a crosshatch, a zone plate and black) with a once-a-second sync beep and a burned-in clock and frame counter, so audio and video sync can be checked at the receiving end.
  • Encoder profiles that a node's region does not support are no longer offered. For nodes in Sydney and Tokyo this hides Main 4:2:2 10; if it was selected, Pixelview Desktop switches to Main10 (after the current stream, if one is running).

Pixelview Desktop 0.0.10

Tenth Apple Silicon release.

  • Stream diagnostics for support: the app now sends Pixelview the log lines that describe a stream, so support can see what happened when a send or a receive goes wrong. This covers the encoder and its settings (codec, profile, bitrate, keyframe interval), the video and audio settings, connection and stream start and stop events, DeckLink events, pairing and receiving events, the app version and which Mac it is (for example "Apple M1 Pro"). Scene names, source names, file names and the rest of the application log are not sent, and tokens and passwords are removed before upload.
  • Diagnostics sharing is on by default. Switch it off at any time under Help > Log Files > Share Logs with Pixelview Support; that also deletes anything not yet sent.
  • New installs default to a two-second keyframe interval for HEVC (Main, Main10 and Main 4:2:2 10). Existing encoder settings are kept as they are.

@strombergdev strombergdev released this 02 Oct 16:50

Pixelview Desktop 0.0.9

Ninth Apple Silicon release.

  • 10-bit 4:2:2 receive: an HEVC Main 4:2:2 10 stream is now decoded in hardware and keeps its full 4:2:2 chroma all the way to the DeckLink output, instead of being reduced to 4:2:0.
  • The DeckLink output always sends 10-bit 4:2:2 Y'CbCr on SDI, in SDR as well as HDR, and the DeckLink capture defaults to 10-bit, so the picture stays 10-bit from SDI in to SDI out whichever profile the stream uses.
  • Improved levels handling: limited-range video is no longer clipped to 64-940, so sub-black and super-white pass through, and 8-bit streams are widened to 10 bits without a level shift.
  • New Output range setting (Limited or Full) on the DeckLink output. Set the sender's input range to match the grading system and the receiver's output range to match the monitor.
  • Sharper colour detail: chroma is no longer softened an extra time when sending or receiving.

Pixelview Desktop 0.0.8

Eighth Apple Silicon release.

  • Receiving now recovers on its own: if the stream stalls or the sender drops out, the Mac reconnects automatically within seconds instead of stopping.
  • The DeckLink output keeps playing while the stream reconnects, and the app no longer freezes after a stream interruption.
  • Short audio dropouts under heavy load are gone.
  • When sending, the HEVC profile list marks Main10 as recommended and explains that Main 4:2:2 10 is transcoded by the server for most viewers.

Pixelview Desktop 0.0.7

Seventh Apple Silicon release.

  • Receiving is now in sync and much faster: audio no longer lags behind the picture, and HEVC streams arrive about 0.6 seconds sooner.
  • While receiving, the Dock icon shows the same red dot as when sending.

@strombergdev strombergdev released this 28 Sep 15:34

Sixth Apple Silicon release.

  • Stopping a stream from Pixelview admin now completes right away instead of timing out, and the Mac stays online when a stream is stopped (from admin or on the Mac).

Fifth Apple Silicon release.

  • Pixelview admin can control the Sending side of a paired Mac: choose the capture device and its DeckLink input settings, frame rate, encoder, bitrate, profile and mute, and start or stop the stream. The Mac's state appears live in admin.
  • The Mac always stays online and ready to stream. Starting without a project in admin no longer takes it offline until a restart; the stream simply fails and Start works again right away.
  • When Pixelview stops the streaming server (the project is deleted in admin, or the server shuts down after a long time without viewers), the stream stops quietly with a short note instead of an error box.
  • The DeckLink output no longer starts at launch. Its AutoStart applies to receiving only, so another application such as DaVinci Resolve can keep using the card while this Mac sends.
  • Receiving HDR: choose SDR, HDR PQ or HDR HLG to match the sender; the canvas and the DeckLink output follow it.
  • Unpairing from this Mac also removes it from your Pixelview account, and unpairing it in admin finishes the unpair on the Mac without a prompt.
  • Stop receiving now closes the viewer session on Pixelview right away.
  • Quitting while an error box is open no longer crashes the app.
  • The installer DMG opens with a laid-out window: drag Pixelview Desktop to Applications.

@strombergdev strombergdev released this 21 Sep 20:35

Pixelview Desktop 0.0.4

Fourth Apple Silicon release.

  • Pairing as a sender works again: the app now ships the TLS component its pairing request needs. Without it every pairing attempt failed before reaching Pixelview.
  • Streaming to Pixelview works again: the app no longer rejects the stream address Pixelview returns after accepting the WHIP offer.
  • A pairing that fails now says why on screen (Pixelview unreachable, invalid or expired code, too many attempts), and pairing, Keychain and connection outcomes are written to the application log. Pairing codes and device tokens are never logged.
  • The short 6-character pairing codes from Pixelview admin are accepted; surrounding spaces are ignored.

@strombergdev strombergdev released this 17 Sep 21:47

Pixelview Desktop 0.0.3

Third Apple Silicon release.

  • Receiving no longer inherits the Sending frame rate: the DeckLink output mode you choose sets the receive frame rate, so an unpaired receiver can play out 24p, 25p or any other supported mode.
  • A DeckLink output that does not start now shows the reason on screen (nothing received yet, device or mode unavailable, card in use, frame-rate mismatch) instead of only writing it to the log.
  • The window title shows the app version, and a new About Pixelview Desktop item shows version and build details.
