v3.2
Changes Made
1. Fixed malformed XHTML comments in the Zotero preferences pane
The plugin preferences file contained two malformed XHTML comments. These comments were missing the closing -->, which could cause Zotero’s preferences pane to fail when loading or saving settings.
Updated:
<!-- Conversion options (collapsible) — wraps Conversion, Enrichments, VLM --><!-- Advanced (collapsible) — wraps Async transport + Advanced JSON -->File:
addon/content/preferences.xhtml
2. Changed Markdown image export behavior
Docling Serve defaults to embedding images directly into Markdown as base64 data URLs, for example:
This makes converted Markdown files extremely large and hard to read.
The plugin now explicitly sends:
image_export_mode = placeholder
when building the conversion request.
This keeps Markdown output clean by replacing embedded images with placeholders instead of large base64 strings.

src/modules/convert.ts
3. Updated local Docling Serve startup configuration
The local Docling Serve startup script was updated to avoid Apple Silicon MPS errors.
The server now defaults to CPU mode:
DOCLING_DEVICE=cpuThis avoids the PyTorch/MPS error:
Cannot convert a MPS Tensor to float64 dtype as the MPS framework doesn't support float64.
The sync conversion timeout was also increased:
DOCLING_SERVE_MAX_SYNC_WAIT=600File:
start_docling.sh
4. Rebuilt the Zotero plugin
