IcedCoffee Beta 2: the quality of life update

IcedCoffee now tells you what to do next, checks your resume's layout, and keeps its tools tidy in a sidebar. Much of it came straight from our first beta testers. Thank you!

Already testing? You do not need to do anything. Your IcedCoffee updates itself.

What you will notice most

  • Resume Formatting Warnings. IcedCoffee now checks your resume for the things that trip up resume scanners and recruiters: too many pages, missing contact details, dates written two ways, text hidden in a page footer, and more. Each warning says why it matters and gives you a button to fix it, or to ask your robot. Not for you? Turn them off for one application, or for all of them, and back on in Settings.
  • Your panels live in a sidebar. Your Robot, ATS Keywords and Hand it to your robot now start docked on the right. Close one and it waits as a button at the top left. Drag any panel out to float it. You will also find them in the View and Window menus.
  • A friendly tour of the panels. The first time you open the editor, each panel comes in and says what it does.
  • Hand it to Claude, step by step. Choose Walk me through it and IcedCoffee guides you: copy the request, paste it into your robot, and see it connect. Then you get ideas for what to ask.
  • Quick fixes. One click to ask for a simpler, scanner friendly resume, to turn two column lists into one, or to turn off Fit to one page.
  • Your jobs at each company, sorted. A company's page now shows what still needs you first, with one button for the next step. Finished roles fold away under Done.

Also new

  • Synonyms you choose to swap. Turn on Auto-Swap for just the word pairs you want, with Swap, Always swap this one and Swap all right in your keyword list.
  • Clearer keywords. Every mark in the ATS list now says what it means, the Questions tab shows how many are waiting, and question cards open by themselves only once per application.
  • Move to Trash. Any resume or letter can go to the Trash from its menu. Your Master Resume is protected.
  • Every job, every time. "Where did you use it?" now lists every job on your resume, not just the ones in About you.
  • Tidier notices. Notices give their words room, with the button on its own line.
  • A calmer empty editor. It offers to import your resume or open your Master Resume, and waits for you.

Fixed

  • Finishing the editor tour no longer jumps to your cover letter.
  • Question cards fit on a 13 inch MacBook Air, and their Next button is always in view.
  • The question card no longer swaps steps in a blink, so it is harder to click the wrong thing.
  • The editor toolbar and panels fit in smaller windows without overlapping.
  • The Tracker has a little more room, and still reads like a spreadsheet.

IcedCoffee Beta 1

IcedCoffee Beta 1

IcedCoffee is a Mac app that keeps your resume, cover letters and job applications in one place.

This is a beta. It is not finished, a few things will be rough, and you are helping shape it. Thank you for being here early.

Install

  1. Download the DMG for your Mac below: IcedCoffee-mac-arm64.dmg for Apple silicon (M1 and newer), or IcedCoffee-mac-x64.dmg for Intel.
  2. Open it and drag IcedCoffee into Applications.
  3. Open IcedCoffee from Applications or Launchpad. The first time, macOS may ask if you are sure you want to open it. Say yes.

Already testing? You do not need to do anything. Your IcedCoffee updates itself.

What you will notice most

  • About you is really about you. Add your photo, say what you are looking for, and see each job in your work history as its own card. If a resume import finds the same job twice, you get a side by side view to pick the better version. Anything marked Just for me is never given to a robot by IcedCoffee.
  • Make the colors yours. The new palette editor lets you pick a background and an accent for Light and for Dark, and watch the whole app change as you go. Not happy? Undo. There is a new calm, neutral look with an amber accent called Stoic, and Soften the page in dark mode makes the white page easier on the eyes.
  • Better help with keywords. See how many times each keyword shows up and where, get friendly checks for dates and phone numbers that trip up resume scanners, and let your robot follow one shared set of tailoring rules.
  • Back really goes back. The back arrow (or Command and the left bracket) takes you to where you just were, and forward works too.
  • Delete without fear. Remove an application and you have 5 seconds to undo it. You can also export everything IcedCoffee holds about you, or delete it all.
  • Your own word list. IcedCoffee builds a library of your synonyms from your own choices, with no robot needed. It can swap them in for you if you want.

Also new

  • Notices (toasts) now stack neatly at the top right and never block what is underneath.
  • Help me pick opens as a simple sheet, and "Yes, both" lets you set up ChatGPT and Claude together.
  • A robot's status light is green when connected and yellow when IcedCoffee sees it but it is not connected yet, with one click to fix it.
  • Welcome tours and prompts take turns instead of piling up.
  • A question queue keeps your "Where did you use it?" cards in one place.
  • Try it on the robot step is bigger and friendlier, and tells you what to do if something is not connected yet.
  • Menus and sheets are never cut off at the edge of a page.
  • IcedCoffee is locked down more tightly against tampering.

Fixed

  • Word files now have the right title and author, and the version for resume scanners has no pictures.
  • The color picker is easier to drag and no longer stays open when you leave the page.
  • Tabs that fold into a menu open back out when there is room.
  • The support page says plainly that giving opens Stripe in your browser.

Send feedback

Use Help > Send feedback in the app, or email feedback@icedcoffee.work. Tell us what confused you, what broke, and what you wish it did.

One more thing

Beta testers get an OG badge in the app. It is our way of saying thanks for being one of the first.

IcedCoffee 0.4.0, release candidate 1

Thanks for trying IcedCoffee early. This is a release candidate: most of it works, some of it will be rough, and what you tell us shapes what comes next.

Getting started

  1. Open the DMG and drag IcedCoffee into Applications, then open it from there.
  2. Onboarding takes a couple of minutes:
    • bring in your resume (Word, PDF, RTF, Markdown or plain text);
    • pick your robot: IcedCoffee's own (with your API key from Anthropic, OpenAI, Google or OpenRouter, or a free model on your Mac) or the Claude app you already use;
    • pick a look.
  3. Found a job? Paste its link. IcedCoffee reads the posting, pulls out the keywords screeners look for, and makes an application with its own copy of your resume.
  4. Ask your robot to tailor it. It rewords your real experience toward the job, never invents anything, and you review every change before you send it.

What's inside

  • A resume and cover letter editor that keeps your formatting, with keyword coverage for each job and a before-and-after view of every change.
  • A job tracker:
    • Home, showing what's next and what needs you;
    • a board of every application;
    • a page for each role, with its posting, keywords, contacts, schedule and history.
  • Interviews:
    • they go on your Schedule, and onto your Mac's Calendar if you like, without duplicates;
    • questions to ask them;
    • a gentle look back when one doesn't work out.
  • Updates install themselves. Every update is signed, and IcedCoffee refuses any that isn't.

Your privacy

Your resumes, letters and applications stay on your Mac. Only what a job needs goes to the robot you chose. To make IcedCoffee better, it sends anonymous counts and crash reports, never anything you write, and you can turn that off in Settings ▸ Privacy. The full story is at icedcoffee.work/privacy.

Tell us

Help ▸ Send feedback for anything broken, confusing or lovely, and Help ▸ Suggest a feature for what you wish it did. Both open a draft in your own mail app, so you see exactly what you send.

Known rough edges

  • It's a release candidate, so expect the odd bug. Please tell us when you hit one.
  • The robot needs either an API key or the Claude app. A Claude subscription alone can't power IcedCoffee's built-in robot, but the Claude app can connect to it.
