Release list
Quiet Pointer 1.1.4
Preferences window refresh.
Changed
- Preferences regrouped — settings now split into Pointer (show toggle, hand style, ink color, hand size, shadow length) and Clicks (all click-animation settings)
- Segmented controls — Hand style, Ink color, Click motion, and Burst style are now one-click segmented pickers instead of dropdowns
- Expressiveness slider — Preferences now uses the same four-stop slider as the menu bar menu (Shy ⟷ Wild), laid out like the size/shadow sliders
- Click settings dim when off — click-animation controls gray out while Animate on click is disabled
- Speed-reactive explained — a caption under the toggle explains the tier-per-click escalation while it's on
Added
- About footer — app icon, name, and the running version + build at the bottom of Preferences, with What's New and Report an Issue links
- Reset to Defaults — one button restores every visual/behavior setting and the hotkey (launch-at-login and the pointer's on/off state are left alone)
Install
brew tap quietapps/quietpointer
brew install --cask quietpointerOr download the zip below, drag Quiet Pointer.app to /Applications, then xattr -cr "/Applications/Quiet Pointer.app".

Quiet Pointer 1.1.3
Livelier poke: the faster you click, the wilder the hand.
Changed
- Poke motion reworked — every poke now plays a full gesture: a small anticipation pull-back, a thrust along the finger axis, then a damped bounce settle with a slight twist. The hand no longer swells on click — the motion reads as a stab, not a zoom.
- Click speed escalates the poke — with Speed-reactive intensity on, each rapid click bumps the poke one expressiveness tier wilder, starting from your chosen mode and capping at In your face.
- Click streaks measured click-to-click — a streak continues as long as each click lands within 0.8 s of the previous one. Bursts keep their v1.1.2 look, sizing, and growth.
Install / upgrade via Homebrew:
brew tap quietapps/quietpointer
brew install --cask quietpointer
Quiet Pointer 1.1.2
Second glove, simpler colors, better shadow, new click motion.
Added
- Hand style — Classic glove (the original upright pointer) or Comic glove, a new diagonal "mouse cursor" glove with a striped cuff, drawn from vector paths so it stays crisp at any size. Its shadow is a constant-width beam continuing straight along the arm's own axis.
- Click motion — Poke (the original forward jab + swell) or Press: the whole hand + shadow recoils down along the shadow's axis and bounces back like a ball against the clicked point.
Changed
- Color replaces glove tints — the glove is always white now. A two-option Color setting (White / Black) drives the shadow beam and burst ink instead.
- Shadow length range widened — the slider now spans a short stub to a very long beam (80–900 canvas units, previously 150–620).
Install / upgrade via Homebrew:
brew tap quietapps/quietpointer
brew install --cask quietpointer
Quiet Pointer 1.1.1
Fixed
- Menu bar icon visibility — the active state tinted the icon with the accent color, which broke template rendering and could leave the icon solid black (invisible against dark wallpapers). The icon is now always a template image so macOS matches it to the menu bar in light and dark mode; the active/inactive state is shown by the glyph itself: filled hand when the pointer is showing, outline hand when idle.
Install / upgrade via Homebrew:
brew tap quietapps/quietpointer
brew install --cask quietpointer
Quiet Pointer 1.1.0
Performance and smoothness release.
Fixed
- Toggle-off stall — cursor-hide reference count no longer grows unbounded; disabling the hand is instant regardless of session length
- Blurry hand on Retina displays — renders at the highest backing scale among connected displays
- Wrong default expressiveness on fresh installs — now defaults to Gentle nudge
- Wrong/stale menu shortcuts when remapping the hotkey to special keys
- Burst drawn over the glove — bursts now render beneath the hand
Performance
- Frame-synced tracking — display-link-driven movement; one update per screen refresh, matched to the display's refresh rate
- Zero idle cost — display link pauses ~1 s after the mouse stops; 0.0 % CPU at idle
- Shadow baked into artwork — no more offscreen render pass per composite
- 60 Hz cursor-hide timer removed — event-driven re-hides plus a cheap 4 Hz visibility-gated backstop
- Hand keeps moving while a menu is open
Added
- Burst style option — Comic pop (default) or Ripple ring
- Hand size slider (48–128 pt)
- Launch at login (SMAppService)
- State restore — hand comes back if it was showing at quit
Install / upgrade:
brew tap quietapps/quietpointer
brew install --cask quietpointer # or: brew upgrade --cask quietpointer
Quiet Pointer 1.0.0
Initial public release.
Quiet Pointer — a native macOS menu bar app that replaces the system cursor on demand with a large, highly visible hand pointer for screen shares, recordings, and live demos. Click, and the hand pokes — faster clicks, wilder pokes.
Highlights
- System-wide hand-pointer cursor replacement — click-through overlay per display, fingertip pinned to the mouse
- Click "poke" animation with four burst styles that grow with click cadence
- Four expressiveness modes — Shy finger → Gentle nudge → Bold poke → In your face
- Speed-reactive intensity — rapid clicks ramp the poke up to 3×
- Glove color picker + shadow-length slider
- Global hotkey (default ⌃⌥P), remappable — no Accessibility permission needed
- Multi-monitor support, no Dock icon, zero permissions, zero network calls
Install
brew tap quietapps/quietpointer
brew install --cask quietpointerOr download QuietPointer-1.0.0.zip below, drag Quiet Pointer.app to /Applications, then run xattr -cr "/Applications/Quiet Pointer.app" (unsigned build — see README).
