Nothing in this release changes how the app works. If you are on 9.12.4, you are not missing a feature or a fix by staying there.

It exists so the build offered to app repositories is one they can accept.

What changed

The repository build no longer asks for permission to install packages.

That build has no updater in it, so it never had a use for the permission. It declared it anyway, and a store's scan reads what a build declares rather than what it does. It is gone from that flavour and untouched in this one.

The build no longer downloads its own tooling partway through.

It fetched the protobuf compiler over HTTP from inside a build step, with a browser User-Agent set on the request so the host would not turn it away. Same file, same place, but it is now declared as a dependency like everything else: it caches, it builds with the network down, and anyone reading the build file can see what it is about to run.

For anyone downloading here

This APK still updates itself. Nothing about that changed, and nothing about it is going away.

It is signed with the same certificate as 9.12.4, so it installs straight over your existing copy. No uninstall, no lost library.
