[Taskbar auto-hide when maximized] Option to keep taskbar visible by default

Hi,

I love the 'Taskbar auto-hide when maximized' mod, but I have a feature request.

Currently the mod forces 'Auto-hide taskbar' to be enabled in Windows settings, and blocks any attempt to disable it. This means the taskbar is always hidden when no window is maximized or overlapping it.

What I would like is an option where the taskbar is always visible by default, and only hides when a window overlaps it. Essentially the same behavior as now, but without forcing the taskbar to hide when no window is near it.

Would it be possible to add a setting for this?

So you want e.g. maximized windows to behave as if auto-hide is disabled? And if there's a maximized window is open, and another window overlaps the taskbar, should there be an empty space between the maximized window and the bottom of the screen? Or should the maximized window fill the whole screen when that happens?

Either way, diverging so much from the default auto-hide behavior isn't easy to do correctly, or it's going to be jumpy and not very useful. But clarifying the exact behavior you expect can will help understand your suggestion.

What I want is simple:

• When no window is maximized or overlapping the taskbar: taskbar is always visible
• When a window is maximized or overlaps the taskbar: taskbar hides automatically

So basically the taskbar should always be visible by default, and only hide when something is covering it. Like the current mod behavior, but without hiding when the desktop is empty.

For the maximized window question: the maximized window should fill the whole screen when the taskbar hides, just like it does now with auto-hide enabled.

I understand it might be technically tricky, but even a "jumpy" solution would be better than the taskbar always being hidden!

That's already how the mod works, so I'm not sure what you're asking. Can you post a video recording of the way the mod behaves for you right now? You can see from the gif in the mod's description that when the desktop is empty, the taskbar isn't hidden.

I see that you're using other mods, notably taskbar on top. The mod wasn't tested with it. Does it behave differently without the taskbar on top mod? Without other mods?

It doesn't matter, the mod causes the option to be enabled.

The mod clearly doesn't work or works incorrectly. Please attach debug logs by following the instructions on the Troubleshooting page:

• Disable the mod.
• Go to the mod's Advanced tab.
• Set Debug logging to Detailed debug logs.
• Click on Show log output.
• Enable the mod.
• Verify that the mod doesn't work, copy the log and save it to a file.
• Set Debug logging back to None.

Looks like something is stuck according to the logs. This message appears multiple times:
"Adjustment already pending, will retry later..."

I also see that the "Customize the old taskbar on Windows 11" option is enabled. Why? You seem to be using the new taskbar.
